LT1 owners, what does your voltage meter read?

I was just wondering what other peoples' voltages are on their 6th gen LT1 cars? This is pretty much the norm on mine and I think it's kind of low. Especially since the voltage range on the gauge is much higher than what my car does. How's your's compared to what I'm showing?

12 volt system. anything over 12 volts is charging the system. The more acc. you use the higher the voltage. you're within the 12-14 range so all good. Now watch your oil pressure gauge when you step on it. It goes off the gauge at least mine does.

Due to emissions and mileage regulations signed by the doof in charge in 2012, we now have idiocy like "smart" alternators.

It will read 12 when not charging and 13 or 14.5v when charging the system. It charges as needed, hence what u are seeing.

If u never see it go up to 14-14.5, either your gauge is messes up or it really is not charging.

The 2016 2SS I had looked like yours on the volt gauge! The only time I had problems was when the car was being repaired from a front end collision and the body shop owner charged it and it never had any more issues.

12 volts is not enough to charge an automotive battery. If it's reading less than 12.6 it means the charging system is idle and no charge is being applied at that moment.

It's not idiocy; it's smart charging.

Your battery is being charged when needed, and not being charged when not needed.

It Fluctuates. Its computer controlled and delivers the voltage needed on demand.

It is charging more often than not, but pay attention to the gauge, there will be times when it displays around 12.5-12.8V.

I'll have to watch it, I've only had the car for 250 miles so haven't had much time to watch it...

What baffles me is why GM decided the voltage gauge should have 5V between major marked divisions (9-14 and 14-19) but only 3 minor divisions not 4 so 1.25V per division. It's not the only gauege like that either.

My '19 2ss does it too. I thought it was weird at first till I realized it only charges as needed.
