Transmission - any advice?
Are there any ways to check the health of your transmission without going to a shop? Or maybe a way to check to know if my stall was installed correctly?
The reason I ask is, sometimes it really feels like I’m just slipping in the gears at higher RPMs. I did several hard red light to red light type pulls the other night. One trial run, in third gear, I steadily climb to about 3500 rpms then punch it. I’m hanging on for dear life, having a blast. Second trial run, is from a dead stop at a red light. Smash the gas first gear goes to redline then second third, the whole time I never get that “thrown back in my seat hanging on to dear life feeling”. What happened today is what drove me to posting the question. A car flys by me on the interstate. I wanna play along so I go from 5th to 3rd and punch it. RPMs flash up, pull it to redline, go to fourth, but it just doesn’t feel like it’s 100% engaged. I dunno, maybe it’s all in my mind. But I thought I’d post it.

Signature doesn’t say that you have an aftermarket trans cooler. You could be overheating. Or the converter isn’t locking up. Mine locks in second under WOT. OR IN 5th under light conditions.

Trans is probably getting tired aka starting to slip.
Fwiw, we have similar setups until I did the ProCharger. My 6L80 started having issues before the blower, but after the blower it only lasted a couple weeks before it was slipping real bad in the upper gears. Get in touch with Tim King at TK Performance. He knows his stuff with these trans. I went with his Stage 2 6L90 build and with 760 rwhp, it is holding up fine. https://www.tkperformanceandauto.com/ https://www.facebook.com/bad3800v6

How does the Tim King trans shift? Does it feel like stock just firmer or does the front end dip under part throttle shifts
Thanks

I’m just guessing from a stock-to-street, beat on your hi-perf car, that shit can and will happen. GM built a lot of fudge-factor, fun into these cars but parts / systems have a finite life under the fun load.
Are you tuned? Most tuners put a little fun into the trans ECM. We all pay to play, as it were.

OP, if you don't have a tranny dipstick, buy one now. (JRE sells 'em) When I got my converter installed I picked it up and it ran good, but had some real weird noises that I knew weren't right. I got the car up to temp and checked the fluid level and I was almost 2 quarts low, the shop did a crap job and probably checked it cold.
Before anything else, make sure the fluid level is good!

Make sure the oil level is 1/2 to 1 quart over full or the transmission will do very funny things.
