X2. Once the long bolt is cut the dash frame should come off without removing the windshield

Knowing to cut that bolt was a clever idea. IMHO

Having done a heater matrix I can say cutting one of the bolts that go through the dash was easy, the other one was a little more awkward, I used a Dremel on one as there is enough room to get in, the other required a hand held hacksaw [the type that's just a handle with a blade in it, not a "full size" one]. Even with the bolts undone its a really time consuming job, my garage was full of parts and as always take some photos on your phone as you unplug stuff, it helps no end putting it back. Its certainly one of the worst designed heating systems I have ever come across and that's saying something.

I never claimed that I came up with the solution but it was perfected. Yes there are a few videos out there but they show the audience how to get the bleeder door out and that’s pretty much it. I didn’t use a Dremel tool. I used a hot knife. This way the heater core doesn’t get damaged. I also modified the opposite end to put the Bleeder door back with a section of threaded rod, if you don’t, good look putting it back. Many customer that have had it done at the dealer claim that the dash isn’t the same anymore, misalignment and noisy. The small section that I modified can't be seen, doesn’t impact or disrupt anything else. I would think the chances of the pivot point breaking would be prone due to colder climate with the use of the heater set at hi. That’s my though! The colder climate will definitely make the plastic more brittle and with the servo motor constantly applying a force beyond what’s needed (good engineering GM) the problem occurs. This is a cheaper less intrusive option for those that don’t want to pay GM more money for something that was not planned out properly and prone to fail
