ZL1 Striping

I like the fact the the ZL1 will have a unique stripe configuration. The ZL1 can be ordered with a black stripe on the top and rear deck, which matches and continues the black carbon fiber hood insert, or it can be ordered without the matching top and rear stripe, leaving only the black CF hood insert to provide contrast with the body color.

It reminds me of how the first generation Camaros had specific striping associated with the different trim styles from the factory. The 1967 SS had the bumble bee stripe, the 1968 had the modified bumble bee stripe with tails that went back to the rear quarter panels, and the 1969 SS had the hockey stripe, while only the Z28 and the 1969 Indy Pace car had the rally style stripes (although these days there are a lot of first generation non Z28 and non Indy Pace cars that have been modified to have rally style stripes).

Prior to the release of the ZL1, I think that any 5th Gen Camaro, with the exception of the 45th Anniversary model which does have unique striping, can be ordered with any style stripe that is offered, which, I think, tends to lessen the visual distinction among the trim levels. I like the fact that the ZL1 will have its unique visual stripe signature.

How do others feel about the unique ZL1 striping?

I like that it will be distinguished from SS and V6 models. I'm on the fence about it, though, in the colors I'm interested in. Seeing a black stripe on an IBM car isn't going to do much, but I'm going to reserve judgment until I see one. I'm crossing my fingers I'll be seeing CFM come along by the time it's my time to purchase. It might pop a little more on that color, but I don't know if it'd be that much. If I were going with silver and certainly white that I'd really like the stripe.

I give KUDOS to GM for this package

What I would like to know is if you get the sunroof, can you have the stripe on top also.

I like that the stripe is unique and flows with the hood, but like the hood the stripe had to grow on me at first. Now I can’t imagine the car any other way and I personally think the stripe delete takes something away from the look of the car.

I’m only slightly disappointed black is the only color on the stripe and interior. I would have liked to see a white stripe option to compliment IOM and my fingers are still crossed for the paint matched engine cover. What is the strategy by GM here in limiting these color options? Cost savings or preserving a consistent ZL1 look across the board? The stripe, SSX wheels, interior, hood, and ground effects all in black do make for a nice, polished look.

I was hoping that Chevrolet would offer the CF hood insert and associated stripe in white as well as black, so one could achieve the appropriate contrast with any body color that one chose. Unfortunately, I believe that black is the only option for the color of the hood insert. I think that IBM would look great with a white hood insert and stripe.

The stripe is mandatory in my opinion. It will look great even on the darker colors as it is a flat black which will look great against the dark/shiny paint schemes. It will truly look awesome on the lighter colors as it will tie in all the black from the body molding, front fascia, rims (if you prefer SSX) and hood insert.

I'd be happy with CGM stripes, too, but I'm not sure that's going to mesh with the extractor... I haven't noticed any other colors for the extractor either, and having an unmatching stripe to the extractor would be a no-go for me.

It seems to add that much more attitude to the car. I especially like your comments about the black stripe tying together the black elements of the rest of ZL1's package.

I am on the fence about it. I like it because it carries the black theme across the car neatly.

On the other hand, I am not a fan of stripe packages in general, and most of the time I prefer uninterrupted painted surfaces. Another quibble of mine is its longevity; How long can the stripe decal last without signs of peeling or fade?

Time will tell whether I pick up the stripe package or not. It will depend heavily on the bottom dollar figure at ordering time (for me).

I am not going to order the stripe on my car. I have never been real crazy about vinyl stripes anyway but since I am going to order mine with a sunroof, I do not want a "black cross" on the roof of the car. I like the look better without the stripe taking away from the lines of the car.

I'm currently working with my salesperson on getting a deal done @ MSRP. I'm almost sure he will get allocation (they did get a MT Pace Car and so did their sister store). Now will the stripe be a delete option? I'm going with White, Forged Wheels and debating on the microfiber wheel and shifter option.

I am on the fence about the stripe - I need to see it on an IOM car before I can make my mind up

I spoke with Scott when he was in Santa Clara in March and he indicated that the top and rear stripe package would be optional, so the ZL1 can be ordered with or without the stripes.

Thanks GoldenBear, Now I need to think this over. If it was part of the package I could remove it, better than to have to pay for it and not like it.

Same thoughts as I was thinking. A black cross...
I doubt if you can order the stripe with a sun roof.
That being said, without a sunroof you are going to have a higher roof line some for more head room.
I want a sun roof as much as anyone but my thought is I am going to decline.
I plan on ordering without a sunroof to keep cost down, and to order the optional stripes. Maybe after the new has worn off the car I may look into the webasto roof. As though I would still get the black cross effect I would get the best of both worlds of having the reverse mohawk roof, the stripes, more head room, AND a sunroof that completely utilities the entire hole in the roof and not just 3/4 like the factory roof does.
Again this is just what I think I am going to do, or may do. But for sure ordering without the roof from factory and for sure ordering stripes.
