It finally happened

After 164k miles my car threw the dreaded P0008 code. Now I get to look forward to replacing timing chains, guides, tensioners, etc. I plan to order the parts tomorrow when I get paid, but I wanted to make sure I have a list of everything I need first. I would hate to forget something and then have to order more parts. So far I have the timing set (including all 3 chains, tensioners, guides, and sprockets), timing cover gasket set, valve cover gasket set, and intake manifold gasket. Am I missing anything? If anybody has any advice please share it here. Thanks

I would replace the oil pump while I was doing the chains with that many miles . Just a little more of an insurance policy !

I got to start working on it tonight. So far I removed the plenum and valve covers. I'm amazed how clean the internal parts of the engine look after 164k miles. I couldn't believe it has very little buildup. The chains didn't seem loose until I turned the engine over by hand. Once it turned about one revolution my daughter could wiggle the chains between the cams about half an inch. I will start back on it in the morning and report back

I have been busy lately but I am still working on it. I broke the crank pulley trying to pull it off with a 3 jaw puller. Other than that, I have removed the timing cover and am currently in the process of replacing the chains, guides, tensioners, etc. I expect to get the timing cover back on it tonight and one valve cover. The reason I plan to put one is because I plan to hold the camshaft while I torque the crank pulley when it arrives

Ok guys the crank pulley came in today. After taking care of a few things after work I finally got back to working on it. The car is completely together now. I changed the oil with Mobil 1 as always and filled the coolant and power steering fluid ( I spilled some when I moved the reservoir out of the way) then tried to start it. It ran like crap for a minute, which scared the crap out of me. Upon inspection I realized I didn't plug in the MAF sensor. I plugged it in and tried again. It ran smooth this time. I let it warm up and pulled it out of the garage. I couldn't help myself and decided to stomp on the gas. The tires broke loose and I let out before I made a new entrance to my garage lol. I'm thrilled my Camaro is finally ready to drive again!
