Built 6l80 vs ?
I'm at that point where I'm going to push real power through this 6l80... its already shook its head at 14psi and the boom clock is ticking...
My options are to either 1. Retain my billet torque converter and build the 6l80 to circle ds 1000hp spec ($5000) 2. Build a 4l80 and buy matching converter ($7000) and have head room for more power down the road which im probably not going to do.(new engine required and I've just built my aluminum block out) 3. Junkyard 4l80 stock trans, good converter and an aftermarket trans controller (1500/2500) 4. Th400...... 5. Manual trans swap because fun..(prolly $5000) This is a street car that weighs more than the ex girlfriend you tell noone about and never goes to the track, will never see slicks and is the most expencive budget build I've ever heard of lol.. |

I don’t see the option I would pick.
How about swapping to a Zl1 or ctsv 6L90e or built 6l90e From what I understand the torque converter is the same between the two.So you would swap the torque converter and the TCM. You would need to buy a different driveshaft or get one modified. With the zl1 trans it’s my understanding that you can use the same mount as the SS. I have not personally verified this but I have read it from people who have made the swap. This is the route I’m going to go if I get to that level. |

LOL at the ex girlfriend statement . . .
Think I would talk to the RPM Transmission folks to get their input. But I am not a Do-It-Yourself guy. Still, wouldnt hurt to talk to a trans expert about your situation. Just sayin

I installed a RPM Stage 5 4L80e. It lasted 2200 miles before the sprag and drum were toast. I had it rebuilt locally and the shop said almost everything was OEM. I wouldn't recommend them to people I didn't like, much less those I do. Maybe I would to the car in the other lane. |

Im doing a Jakes level 4 4l80E. dont mess around with the 6l80E if you are serious about power. 14-15+ psi is going to eat that 6l80 quick, built units seem to be a crap shoot. So unless you want to get back in there and go 4l80 or th400 later do it now lol.
EVEN a 6l90E wont be much if you are after serious power. No slicks and mainly tons of power on the street a overdrive is nice. If you are going to drag and pack a 17/15 wheel a th400 transbrake is better than 80E |
