CARBON FIBER!!!
well people as we know Ive just got my 2000 Z28, and well Ive got a lot of work to do. We all know that the 4th gen Camaro's interior isnt a work of art, so I got to looking into carbon fiber replacements. They look great, but are expensive and to get good quality parts you have so send your trim you want done in. but on LS1tech I got inspired when I saw a C5 owner take the time to do it his self and it looked pretty d@mn good. So Ive decided that Im gonna master the art of carbonfiber..ing? so anyone that has any knowledge or know some good websites that will aid me in my conquest of carbonfiber..ing feel free to share. Ill post updates as my abilities progress.

if you (or anyone else with a 4th gen interior) would like to do a leather setup....
http://store.specializedstainless.co...r+Interior+Kit This kit is made for the DIY guy (or girl). If you have common sense and can follow directions you shouldn't have any problems with this kit. This kit includes everything you need EXCEPT a heat gun, MEK (methyl ethyl ketone). All of these can be purchased at your local hardware store or hobby shop. The kit includes: - Detailed instructions with high resolution pictures (must have internet connection to view high resolution pictures). The instructions are written for a ’98-’02 Camaro but will help immensely with any vehicle. - 2 quarts of glue. - 2 sheets of sand paper. - 1 roller. - 2 brushes. - 1 razor blade. - 1 can opener. - 4 Yards (144” x 54”) of un-cut high quality automotive imitation leather. Make sure to select what color you want from the drop down menu on the right. The material has the following properties & is manufactured to meet the following codes: * Mildew resistant * UV Stabilized Pigments * 54" Wide * BIFMA Class A * UFAC Class 1 * California Tech Bulletin 117 Section E * Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 302

We had a rear engine dragster with carob fiber body panels. You could pick each one up with two fingers and barely feel the weight.. Only thing is that it was INCREDIBLY expensive. Make sure you look into the prices before you start spending lol.

Spike that kit actually looks great...thats not a bad route to go either, I think my buddy used that kit in his WS6.
Jeff: its not really the material that costs even though the cost of carbon fiber has went up 4x in the past few years. Its the man hours required to make the parts that makes them so expensive. |
