New cam driving experience

It’s been a week with my new cam. Car has good power, sounds great.
1- it hunts for idle in first 20-30 seconds then seems to settle. Is this normal?

2- during highway cruise with little throttle input there is slight bucking even above 2000 rpm. In fact 6th is better under 2000 than 4th or 5th is above 2000. It’s not bad and if this is normal then I can live with it. If it’s not though it may need some tweaking.

3- idle was set to 900 but when driving and warm, the car still idles down to 600 at stop lights.

4- car requires more clutch and throttle in my driveway and parking lots. This I am sure is just the nature of a large (ish) cam

Overall very happy but not sure if any of you cammed guys let service shops drive your cars anymore lol

What cam did you go with?

My TSP stage 3 does not hunt at idle. That doesn't seem right. Also, my idle is set at 950 and that's where it stays.
Above 2k it should be smooth too.
Low rpm stop and go like in a parking lot is going to tedious because the cam moves the power range of the engine up so that sounds about right.

Custom cam in my sig. I should clarify it only hunts first 20 sec on initial first start/ cold start. Not long

A larger cam will always do some of that but it sounds excessive. I don't think its tuned right. They got the WOT tune good but the rest needs work.

i cant see your sig but it sounds like its needs a little bit more tuning

it might be a stupid question but is your check engine like on?

Your tuner should be able to adjust for most of your concerns. Your cam is not that crazy and shouldn’t have bad manners with a good tune. Idle shouldn’t take long to find and it should bounce around +/-50 RPMs of where it is set. When cruising, you should be fine with no bucking with the RPMs about 1,500-1,600 RPMs (although under light load it might kick a little). Above 2,000 you should be smooth sailing. It makes me think you have a misfire if you are experience a buck above 2,000. I wonder if you have a plug fouled up.

No check engine light. I was thinking misfire too but I think that it would feel worse? It’s subtle at cruise. Like a little thump every 3 seconds or so. Goes away with more throttle.

Cam is 230/243 .620 .604 , 114+4 custom cam motion

Why don't you make a video so we can hear it? My car will idle a little high at cold start but comes down pretty quick and then goes in and out of a cadence.

Here's a video:

Have you talked to your tuner? Dyno tune or remote?

It really pisses me off when these place screw up the tuning. What a pain in the ass for the customer.

I don’t know that anything is actually screwed up. It’s subtle stuff like at cruise and the idle gets to 900 on cold start but at warm driving it idles at 600-650. But even that is not too bad.

"hunting for idle" for 20-30 seconds isn't normal. The other things you mentioned sound like they are tune related to me. Trust me, I had many of the same issues. Your tune needs refined. That's why I asked if you have talked to your tuner.
