New Cold Air Intake

It looks like SLP has a few new cold air intake systems for our cars. All look to be based on their original blackwing design but have conical filters. The stage 2 design looks interesting but sadly only available for V8 cars.

They look pretty nice honestly. Similar to the Z/28 design. This one in particular looks like a winner for anyone with a V6... http://www.slponline.com/product/620045--.html

The SLP Blackwing is definitely the most affordable "intake" on the market. But it's really just a higher flowing tube and filter. That being said the stock airbox DOES flow really well and there are some great options for drop in filters. I have a drop in green air filter and JacFab found it to be the highest flowing drop in filter in his tests.

Makes those even better lol. This is what I'd buy if I was in the market again... Might be able to find it even cheaper...

It looks very similar to the Airraid, but from the looks of it, I say the the SLP one is a step forward in the right direction... I tried an Airraid out on my old SS, and I was not a fan. The price is right on ebay, and as much as I'd like to try it out... I'll have to ponder it for a while. Also note that they make ZERO note of any hp gain claims... I'd say that's either a good thing, or a bad thing... Maybe they haven't even tested it? It is nice to see something new come to market though...

As far as the Green filter. Yes, it did flow the best in my test, but it's pretty easy to see WHY it flows the best if you read the construction description. Only 2 layers of filtration media, and you can see the sun through it almost as plain as day... The S&B hot on it's heels in flow, has 8 layers of media, and is more affordable... The OG black wing flat panel filter is an S&B filter, I'd be willing to bet this new conical filter also is.

Thanks for posting this. I suspected the stock box couldn't be too bad if they get 323hp from the 3.6L. I'm going to start a new thread about the gameplan for my vehicle, wanting to keep things well within warranty standards ,etc.

I emailed SLP a few days ago regarding the possibility of just buying the filter/airbox part for those of us who already have blackwings. Haven't heard anything back(not surprising since it was one of those fill it out a form on the website and we will email you back things) but I am going to try to call tomorrow. I will report back if anyone is interested in upgrading their existing intake.
