Howard and Redline Motorsports, comes through again!!!
As many of you know, I've had some small issues with my STS system. All in all, I like it. But it needed improvememts. One of those issues was a noisy oil pump, that I stupidly ignored. On the way back from PBIR, one night, my car began to POUR oil out from underneath, due to one of the oil pumps failing. Yes, it was the noisy one that I ignored.
Here's where Howard stepped in. It was 11:30 at night, when this happened. He answered his personal phone, while he was at home. He told me that he was leaving his house and would meet me at the shop, since i was pretty close by. Did I mention that he was already at home and it was 11:30 at night. How many vendors do you know that would do that? Not many. As soon as I got there, he crawled underneath and confirmed the oil pump failure. But it didn't end there. The dude helped me wash my car, since it was covered in oil. I left it there and got a ride home. A couple of days later, he calls me with a few options. One was to replace the failed pump, with the same crappy one. That option was the cheapest, but not the best. Below are pics of the option that he suggested and that I went with. Dumped the two oil STS pumps and went with one large pump. Added an oil reservoir, with quality hoses and fittings. Also, dumped the POS STS PCV system and installed a quality catch can. And finally, tuned the beast. My car has never driven better than it does now. This kind of customer service is priceless.

Great customer service. The 408 in my Silverado was built by an associate of Howard.
BTW, good looking pump. Looks like the Exa-Pump that I got but the smaller version of it. I did not have good luck with the reservoir I had made so I ditched it. I used Black nylon and stainless steel braided lines with Ear's fittings.

Gus,
I'm glad things worked out. Even though it costed a bit more its a far superior setup which won't leave you stranded.. Could have been a worse situation between a failed turbo or even catching the car on fire! Now lets get back to PBIR and squeeze it! HT |

This is the base model turbowerx pump, we will only use the turbowerx exa or base model for scavenge pumps, they are the best problem free pump designed for the oil scavenge, we use the aeroquip socketless hose due to we have found that it controls the vapor loss the best <ie keep in the oil or fuel smell> short of Teflon hose which can get quite expensive. We always like to use the scavenge tank esp on a rear mount kit due to the fact of when the pump shuts off after the car shuts off the return line will drain back to the turbos so the tank gives the oil somewhere to collect rather than than filling the turbo cartridges and have the turbos smoke on startup. We also like to mout the pump close to the turbos/tank due to the fact that the pump is more efficient at pumping pressure the length of the car vs mounting the pump up front and trying to suck the length of the car like how the sts setup is routed. Gus we were glad we could help out with the car and get you back on the road. |

I was having some issues with oil coming out the tailpipe that I thought was oil pump related but it was just residual oil from when the dyno shop reinstalled the skid plate and they pinched the oil return lines. The test on the pump shows how good they suck the oil. Here is a video of me testing the pump. I unplugged the pump and let the oil from the turbos drain into a plastic container then when it got full I plugged in the pump and it sucked the contained dry very fast. I may put the reservoir back in now that I figured out the smoking to see if it works better.

the exa will suck that container dry fast but put a 10 ft straw on it and its sucking capabilities go down, prob would not have an issue but definitely wont have one pumping to the front. |
