I hope you like it. I would have suggested a smaller car with a good inline 4 cylinder. Even GM has made RWD 4 cylinder cars with power to weight like a 1SS and which will get 30+ mpg highway.

You don't need to leave fun, performance, and looks behind to get MPGs. I hope the Merc treats you well

Ok some simple Farmer's math.......

$500/$4 gallon = 125 gallons x 25 mpg = 3125 miles per month x 12 = 37,500 miles per year.

Now if the OP is getting less than 25 which if the drive isn't all highway, the numbers drop.

$500/$4 = 125 gallons x 20 mpg = 2500 miles per month or 30,000 miles per year. This seems like a more reasonable approximation.

What happens after the warranty runs out that costs $500 per month in maintenance? Yes German cars have higher costs for some services. Brake job on my Audi will likely run over $1500 when it's time. But there is nothing automatic about maintenance costs as soon as the warranty runs out.

Not sure what your logic is here.

Based on the numbers above, the little 4 banger Merc should get high 20s all around vs. low 20s with a V6 Camaro. If he is spending $500 in gas he likely saves $100 or so a month minimum. And the Merc at $30,000 is about the same price as the 1LT with a few options. How is the OP not saving money?

Agreed it's a Camaro website OP will find more joy going on a Merc site saying the Camaro was traded for the Mercedes. But I'm more interested in a comparison of MB first FWD car. Magic Chicken Ride Control or not.

My 4500 pound SUV doesn't even cost me $500/month in fuel. And I dump midgrade in her.

And if Mercedes maintenance costs are still as bad as they were when we had our Mercedes...good luck.

If I was going to get a Merc I'd be looking at a used E63 or C63. I'd rather have a Malibu before I got the CLA though.

Yea , the Malibu is sweet looking . Most likely he's just like some other ppl that goes by the badge. So, they can think they're better than others.

Fen, was that a 2010 or 11?

There is a reason MB can sell so many cars here and a million more in China. Everyone that thinks they are crappy cars is missing something.

In the 2013 JD Power Dependability Survey (3 year old cars), MB was 5th

PPH

Lexus 71
Porsche 94
Lincoln 112
Toyota 112
MB 115

Buick was at 118
Chevy was at 125
Industry Avg. was 126
Ford 127

So from that POV, every GM brand was behind MB in the Dependability Survey

http://autos.jdpower.com/ratings/dep...ss-release.htm

All wayyyyy ahead of Audi btw

I'm not saying they're crappy cars but the maintenance costs are ridiculous. When my parents had their Mercedes back in the 90s the only way my dad could afford to maintain it was because he had a friend who worked for a MB dealer who got him parts for cheap.

I mean if money is no object then knock yourself out. But going from a Chevrolet to a Mercedes, prepare for some sticker shock the first time you need to pay for service.

The only thing that is really more on the Audi is the brake job and that is because Audi mandates rotor replacement rather than turning. Oil change with full synthetic at my dealer is $90 which is very competitive with local oil change shops. I paid $70 for the last Cruze oil change with the new partial synthetic GM mandates at Jiffy Lube. A 4 wheel alignment at my Audi dealer is $189. You pay $120 per hour at any GM dealer for service not on warranty.

So the service costs will be higher just like on a Cadillac because the parts are more expensive.

What you guys are really referring to is not maintenance costs but repair costs. Parts are more expensive on expensive cars and in some cases those parts come from Europe. But back in the day, the volumes weren't what they are today. So warehousing and shipping is not crazy.

You guys are all posting like you think 3 seconds after the warranty runs out (in 4 years) that OP will get a bill in the mail equal to what was paid for the car.

But how about we talk about a FWD MB. That to me seems a travesty in itself...............regardless of repair or maintanance costs.

I jus just comparing 5 year estimated cost of ownership of a Mercedes C class and a Camaro 2SS. The initial cost for each vehicle is nearly the same so any differences would be in operating expences, maintenance and repairs.
You can judge for yourself.

Well, Parts are more expensive even on some cars that's not more expensive than yours.

The CLA does look pretty nice. However the Camaro and the CLA are not in the same class, even after a similar price tag. With the CLA you will get a lot more comforts compared to what the Camaro offers, but you wont get the power. So I guess it depends on what you like.
The CLA does look really nice though! Post pics when you get it.
