ZL-1... or Corvette 427?
My patience is wearing thin waiting on my ZL-1. It left Oshawa on 6/19. That's five weeks ago! And now I see there's a 427 convertible Corvette available, apparently a Z06 without a roof! I have a special attachment to these since I owned a 1968 convertible 427 a decade ago.
The thing is, I like my SS, and presumably my incoming ZL-1, because they remind me of that old Corvette, except that everything works on the modern cars. The air conditioning, the stereo, the cooling system... how luxurious to not have to pull over in the summer to let the engine cool down! Now that there's a new 427 available, maybe it would be even better than a ZL-1. Maybe I'm just venting. But I wouldn't mind hearing fellow Camaro enthusiasts' opinions on the matter. Anyone else considering a Vette instead of a ZL-1? |

I went from Vettes, back to Camaros. No regrets, especially since the Vette prices skyrocketed.
My last Vette was an 04 Z06, loved the LS6 C5 Z's..... At the price of the new Z's/GS's... lost interest a long time ago and have been loving Camaros ever since. 1 vote for the ZL1! |

You're too close to not go ahead and get the ZL1 you ordered. It could be at your dealer any day.

For the price of a 427 convertable, you could get a ZL1 for the weekends and a 2SS for a daily driver. If you can afford the Vette, buy it. I'm sure that a $100,000 car will be a bit better than a $60,000 car.

The Vette is about 77k, although the ones near here seem to be 90k. No, I can't have three cars; I only have a two-car garage and one bay is for my wife's car. Also I don't want three cars. I want one terrific car. Yes, it's a nice problem to have ; I'm fortunate enough to have a miserable job that pays well.
I can always get the Corvette later, I suppose. Technically I could get the Vette this afternoon; there are several in the area. |

MY .02
if you can get the vette at 77k ( I assume MSRP is ~85k) and you don't need the back seat get the vette. Now if the vette is not going to be practical then just take a deep breath and wait the ZL1 out. the 427 vert should be a faster car stock vs stock. handling wise though ironically the ZL1 may be in the same league. I am pretty impressed by the data on the car but I am like you mine is in shipment purgatory and won't seem to show up so I can't comment on how it compares to my Z06. in my eye's a vet is a 3rd car though it is hard to live with as a daily at times. Can be done but is not always convenient.

If I was in your shoes I would just wait the ZL1 out at this point.

If your car has already been built,I think I would just wait it out.It shouldnt be much longer. The C6 is 9 years old now,and the C7 is right around the corner. The 427 Vert. is nice though, been looking at them myself.

If you can buy the 2013 Corvette 427 Convertible 60th Anniversary Edition for $77,000.00, grab it. That is $15,000 under MSRP and there is no way you will be able to get the ZL1 for $15,000 under MSRP. The ZL1 is best car that I have ever owned but if I could even trade my 67 Vette for the 427 Convertible, I just might do it.
