Question Stumped from what I was told. Not Camaro related

Ok so would like to see what some others think of what I was told the other night.
Had a friend get an engine built. It's a 4 cylinder. This person is wanting to make around 500whp.

Well his engine builder told him he didn't have to balance his rotating assembly even tho the original crank was used and the rods and pistons was bought separately.

I'm sure you don't absolutely need to balance them but making that power on a 4 cylinder And dumping that money into it. Why woundnt you?

The thing that I found concerning was the fact that when he switched to main studs his builder said you don't need to line hone the main caps all you need to do is run over sized main bearings. ( The crank was not turned only polished)

I would suggest your friend find another engine builder. This one is either not very bright, or very lazy. Failing that, suggest that when the car goes on the dyno, if he's in the room, to wear full body armor.

All I could do was laugh. I tried to tell him his engine builder fuc#ed him but he just gets mad and says nothing is wrong with it.
It has a twin disk in it and im like 100% sure the throw out bearing is junk or put in backwards if that's even possible.
It sounds like two skeleton's fuc#ing on a tin roof when he pushes the clutch in.
But his builder says everything is normal.

"Skeleton's on a tin roof" Lol

Go ahead and call the tow truck, tell them the car is sitting at the intersection of Time and Truth.

Why bother building a 4 banger?

One of my nephews loves blowing those things up. He buys another used one, ups the boost and has a blast.

When I was over there last he had a few blown motors sitting in the back yard. I asked him about that and he says, "They're cheap and I have fun!"
Can't deny that logic.

Oh, and he drives a tow truck for a living

One of the guys I track with has a built up subaru making the same HP as our LS3 and let me tell you that thing is insane on the track. Smaller and lighter than my 1LE and same HP with AWD. It's a fast, fast track car. Lap after lap.

You gotta love the grenade motor mentality. As long as you have money to burn.

I have seen a more than a couple of 4 bangers run under 10 seconds in 1/4 mile. These can certainly be built to make great power reliably. However, the same rule applies...

1.Cheap
2.Fast
3.Reliable

Pick any two.

I agree! a Four Cylinder needs to be balanced for good horsepower as most want to shake themselves apart, especially in a big 4 cylinder. That is one of the reasons why Porsche put in Counter-Rotating Balance Shafts in 944 Motors

Strong rumours about Mercedes/AMG are developing a streetlegal hypercar: 1.6 ltr V6 turbo 1000 hp (formula 1 based) "supported" by 2 electrical powerunits wich delivered 300 hp, so 1300 hp under the hood......
If i ever win a (big) lottery

A big yes to both align bore and balancing.
