I just installed my v1s, added the J-Pipes before installing. 0 drone at 60-70, little drone 75-80, but nothing my sub thump could not cover.

Welded the J-Pipes, just clamped to stock pipes. Will have to weld those eventually, but my welder was in a wheel chair, so he wouldn't let me toss him under the car. But, next time, I will get them welded too.

I only hear them when the engine has a load, 0 sound when you lift your foot.

No Regrets.

Where did you get J pipes from?

I bought these cause I couldn't find them offered on ebay any more.

I followed the descriptions on what to do and how they were supposed to look from

http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=182467

Then I went to my welder, showed him the pics, then we spent a few hours fitting them to the space under the car.

Well I've decided I'm gonna start with a Magnaflow Resonated x-pipe, see if that helps make this a touch more acceptable, before I decide to cut a hole in my V1's. Might knock a few dB's off them as well. I went with the v1's cause I wanted the idle to be nice grumble, and was afraid that the v2's wouldn't have it. With the v1's I have an awesome idle, but the things are way louder than any youtube video I've ever seen, almost unacceptably loud. I'm hoping the x-pipe will get me into my ideal sound range, and knock out some drone. If that doesn't eliminate all the drone, then J pipes are in my future.

kessler, how long are your j pipes and where is that measurement taken from, where the pipe meets the v1 to the end of the pipe?

I measured down the middle of one side. Not the outside, not the inside. its somewhere between 29 and 29.5 inches, I did not measure precise since it comes with a built in overlap.

So there is going to be a set of MRT V1's for sale soon...only got about 60 miles on em. No offense to the MRT lovers in the world, but those things are just way to loud. Maybe I'm just getting old.

It was weird. I drove to work with em on and thought I could handle em. Then I drive home and now I feel like my head is going to explode. Rather than spend more money trying to fix it, I'm going back to stock

Wait about 100 miles. I got the V2s but after 100 or so miles they significantly calmed down and now they are perfect. I had the same response you did at first but they mellow after a break in.

LOL. JMO, I think you should have gone with the V2's instead of the V1's. I love mine. I do love the cold start as they are kind of obnoxiously loud but once the motor settles into idling they are kind of mellow.

I have hesitated changing to the MRT V2 for over a year because of concern about it being to loud. Haven't been able to hear a V2 set-up except in youtube posts--and I know they are just a representation and aren't the same as actually having it on the car. Resonated x-pipe may resolve, but Still an issue of uncertainty. I share the concerns OP is experiencing.

What I originally wanted was louder than stock. I got that from the MRT V1's. What I didn't want was to wonder whether or not I'm gonna set off someone's car alarm with it.

If I was going to rate stuff from the stock exhaust being 0 and the MRT V1 being 10, I was hoping for something around a 4 or 5. Like I said though, maybe I just had different expectations than everyone else. My personal situation (2 year old and a newborn) would not allow for something this loud as my DD. My 2 year old was complaining it was too loud. All I wanted was a nice grumble. Now I'm not sure what to do other than go back to stock and be grateful I can drive it without getting a headache.

I think what really made it clear for me that they were too loud, was driving next to a semi doing 70, and my car was louder.

Yeah, listening to you tube clips doesn't really give the sound of what to expect when you actually get them on your car and in person. I know I spent close to 2 hours listening to a bunch of different sound clips and knew it would sound different in person. I chose the one I thought sounded the best and hoped for the best in person and not the worst. When I see a post when someone mentions they wished they could hear them in person the next thing I look for is where you're located and seems like everyone that says that lives across the country.

Ok im going to be getting an new exhaust soon I have talked my self out of paying over 1000 for a cat back so im looking for an axle back. Im stuck over the MRT V1 or V2. I went from my old DD a 99 Blazer (4.3 V6) with stock exhaust down to where it y's into one pipe from there its 3" through a 3" thrush glass pack and out through a 3" tip. So basically from the front passenger area to out the back it 3". And I liked the sound but it did have a bit of drone and with the off road tires the was plenty of road tire noise. All that noise I got use to so if the MRT V1 is about that noisy im going to get that. I just don't want to must drone. So my MRT V1 guys where ya'll at is the drone that bad?
