My brother in law owns a shop in NY. For Chevy parts and estimated labor he said $3,500 for cam and heads. This is about $1,500 in parts and $2,000 in labor. The service manual suggested 26 hours.

Forgot to mention LS3 M6
Thanks

We have numerous packages for the Camaro. What mods do you have done to the car so far, and what are your future plans for the car? PM me all of your information and we can get a quote to you that will have the parts, labor, and tuning.

To the OP, that sounds reasonable to me. I also have an M6 and was quoted anywhere from $1800 to $2400 for all parts, labor, tune, etc. Good luck with your choice, and choose a reliable installer with a GREAT tuner, and not just the cheapest option.
I totally concur with that statement.

Pulling a spark plug to get a radical idle was something done by wannabes back in the 60s and 70s. If you can back it up, you were not a wannabe - you were COOOL MAN!

Calling a cam by it's idle qualities is deceiving. A nitrous (blower?) cam needs less duration on the intake and more on the exhaust. I ran a HUGE nitrous flat tappet cam on a street driven Chevy II. The cam idle sounded very mild due to lack of intake duration, but a 150 shot of laughing gas put the figures up 219 RWHR from no gas.

Never judge a book by it cover (sound)...judge it by the dyno or ET slips.

Price on the headers is too high, check maryland speed. Cam price is pretty crazy too

I' NEVER bored, just curious. As I've built street/strip cars for 45 years, I know a few things. The modern stuff, not so much. So I do Google searches and threads come up.

A applaud all the folks that supply knowledge to those in need. Even old threads can give the new guys what they need.

Bringing up old threads...I'll continue to do so if I need to learn something, or if someone is in need of tech advice.

There's nothing wrong helping folks in need, even if it involves old threads.

I can remove/replace an early small block engine blindfolded. I cannot do a thing with modern engines, 'cept for a ported TB.

I spent about $1300 in parts to install a new cam a year and a half ago. Parts only. Did the labor myself. Then a new tune because the cam was bigger than the first performance cam I had.

This included new cam, lifters, exhaust valves and all valve seals including lapping the heads and valves, head gaskets, front cover gasket, water pump gasket. Anti freeze was still good so reused it.

I had most of the tools but had to buy a few to do the job. If I had professional setup and lift I could have done the job in about 6-8 hours easily. That would make labor pretty generous at $1200 or more. Just make sure you get good valve springs and pushrods for the heavier load. Would also highly recommend the LS2 chain dampener and a Ktech C5 chain. They should also let you keep your stock cam and springs in case you ever want to restore it to stock. Why let them profit on your parts when someone else just needs a new stock cam from them.

Old thread or not, I'm actually in the same boat, except I'm right over the border in NJ (Bergen county). I'm considering going down to Cartek in Garwood NJ since he did my dyno tune about a year back and that shop usually turns out solid work, but I'm definitely open to suggestions.

Similar budget, can go up to 3k parts included but don't want to really come too close to that. Strongly leaning towards the Nightfury cam from LR.

ECS, gave me a quote of 28 out the door tuned. And that was for the blower cam and all parts.

Better to search and comment on an old one than make a new one

As many have stated it is a 6-8 hour job at $100/ hour you should be paying $600-$800 plus tune which is about $400 max. That is $1,400 max.

After I install my LTs my next project is going to be new cams. I have an automatic 2010 SS. TSP has stage 1 cams that don't require removing the cylinder heads or lifters, so I was wondering what the installation cost might be; I would assume it would be a lot cheaper than what others have posted on here. I'm curious to know if anyone else has installed these cams on their automatic and what the cost of installing them was.

How many miles do you have? Just because you don't HAVE to pull the lifters, doesn't mean it wouldn't be a good idea if you are getting up there in miles. I've seen many AFM lifters fail on stock engines, let alone modified.

Just my $.02
