LS3 into an 80's Monte Carlo SS
I'm curious and thought I'd post this. My girlfriends dad has an early 80's Monte Carlo SS with a 305 in it. He wants to drop an LS3 in its place, however I'm under the impression that there is A LOT more to it than just dropping in a LS3, he seems to disagree. Isn't this going to be a much larger project than just an engine swap, or am I missing something?

I've swapped an LSX in my Monte. Getting the motor in was relatively easy. Need to use the right combo of mounts, oil pan...and a little work on the engine crossmember. Then you have wiring, fuel system, induction type.
Had the car running using a MSD ignition controller and a carb, but now going EFI. |

I'd look into the E-Rod engine line. It has everything you need to swap a LSX engine into an older RWD car. They are a bit pricey but everything is new and complete. The LS3 is stout for a 3200 lbs car with a basic SLA coil spring suspension. The car wasn't designed to handle 430 hp from the factory. You should consider upgrading the suspension if you really want to complete the swap correctly.
