Reno Air Races

It isn’t about Camaros, but it’s about power and speed! We were at the Reno Air Races this week and what an awesome show! Sport, jet and unlimited classes were all pushing high 400 mph around an ~7 mile pylon race course.

I flew up there in '87 as Thunderbird support and I had the time of my life!
I don't remember any jet racing though, just props.

Nothing else sounds like those planes going flat out.

Classes of a/c have definitely expanded over the years. Most of the jets were old Soviet era L-29 and L-39 made by Aero Vodochody in Czechoslovakia. Old but some of the L-39s were hot with the winner at 486 mph. Really impressive was the sport class props with many flying Lancair and the winner at just over 400 mph - in a civilian / commercially available prop! But for cool its hard to beat the unlimited class with P-51s, Sea Furies and an F-8. The Sea Fury “Dreadnought” took Gold at 417 mph - it looked and sounded sweet.
