Installed Borla mid pipe 60606 today with stock muffler
OK...this wasn't a horrible install as aftermarket exhaust usually fits terribly and rubs everything. This is a slam dunk install with a few hints and tips to ease the process.
Removing the factory stuff is not bad. The driver's side clamp takes a little work but not as bad as others have mentioned. Remove the 15mm nut on the clamp and hit the stud a few times to release tension on the clamp. Once released, spread the clamp a bit and wiggle the clamp back a forth until the tang breaks and remove. You don't need to cut the clamp as the directions state. The passenger side is cake with (2) 15mm nuts on the flange. Remove the 02 sensor with a 7/8 open end or 22mm wrench. You don't need to disconnect the wire to the O2 sensor as it feels inaccessible. You need to put the new x pipe in position over the stock exhaust and mark the location of necessary cuts on the stock pipes. Use the hanger location to ensure the cut is in the right place. It is easy to judge. I used a cordless sawzall and it went through like butter. Remove the stock mid pipes and place in a safe location. The new stuff goes on easily. Attach the absolute position passenger side front pipe and reinstall the 02 sensor. Reinstall the 15mm factory nuts. The driver's side pipe has some rotation so just line it up in a similar orientation to the passenger side (mirror image). Use the Borla clamp there...factory clamp won't help at all. The two new mid sections are identical left & right so just put them in place and rotate for clearance. The x-pipe section is inflexible so you must have the mid sections situated just right. The last connection is to the factory suitcase muffler and mine was exactly in the correct position. Someone posted they had to spread the x-pipe to get things to line up. I had zero width problems and only had to add the 2 3/4" union clamps (not included) which I purchased from Summit Racing. How does it sound? It isn't huge but it is noticeable. I would say it is 15-20% louder with a few pops. It isn't raspy at all. No drone or other negative sounds. Here are two pics of the stock vs Borla section and I will find the part # from Summit racing for the 2 3/4" union clamp which worked perfectly. Hope this helps!

So the front bolts up perfect. No cutting??? They back near the stock suitcase is the only 2 cuts required? And that 60606 is the only thing besides vibrant clamps that you need?

front requires no cutting...unbolt the flange on the passenger side and remove the clamp on the driver's side. Yes, the Vibrant clamps and two cuts at the rear to utilize the stock muffler. Some choose to put in a new rear section exhaust too which is a perfect fit with no cutting required. I don't think a new rear section is worth $1700-$2000. I'm old...this is loud enough and I like the stock tips.

The Borla music note is far beyond the factory Stock Suitecase. My car sounds more like a Z06 now. Almost GT30 ish.

Couple questions.
You installed this on a ‘17 ZL1? Borla site says 60606 is for SS. Is stock midpipe 2.75 or 3 “? I’m looking to add resonators as I did kooks long tubes, cat del. I’m stock pipe from there to a corsa axle back. I’m old too so looking to quiet down a bit (still like extra hp though) Borla offers 60608 resonator. 2.75”. Thinking have a muffler shop cut and install... Thanks |

I know a ZL1 owner who installed the SS Camaro Borla kit because he wanted the carbon fiber tips. As you said same exhaust. Not sure if muffler internals are the same though on the Borla kit has been my curiosity.

I have the 60606 installed with a Corsa axle back. Great setup.
In my experience, yes you don't have to cut but the tab on the clip is attached to both the stock clamp and the primary cat pipe so you have to break that or snip it. |

Car appears identical. Tips and stock muffler are in the same place.
