Trimming radiator shroud for ZL1 front end - help
Not sure if this is the correct forum section-I apologize if it is not. So I installed the ZL1 front end on my 2012 2LT/RS last week and I made a mistake trimming the factory radiator shroud. The black plastic thingy, radiator air inlet, or whatever it is called. The ZL1 version is part# 22876562. With Ofer/2SSRS's help, I realized that I needed to trim the lower/bottom piece so that it's flush with the radiator support bar, or whatever it's called. However, I had already trimmed the right and left sides of my stock radiator shroud, thinking that the ends were causing the fitment issues. I have an Injen cold air intake and I also have the ZL1 wheel liners. You can't see the air filter in the first picture unless you're at an angle, like in the second picture.
Is this an accidental modification for more airflow to the Injen and possibly the brakes? Or is this not a good idea because of potential water issues? Ofer thinks it's fine, unless I encounter any surging issues from too much airflow. Should I: -leave it the way it is -get another V6 shroud and retrim -get the ZL1 radiator shroud/brake ducts -do something else Thanks in advance. |

It has rained a few times already, no problems yet. I just noticed this open area so I was wondering if I should fix it or leave it. Maybe I could install the brake ducts and not have to get the ZL1 radiator air inlet? Can I see pics of your lower grille/area you trimmed?

Hard to explain but I guess it's just the bottom/lower part. If you're standing over your bumper and look down, you'll see the radiator shroud sticking out from the metal radiator support bar. You trim it so that it's flush from where you're standing and looking down.
