the ones at the autoparts store are probably junk and will rust. You need Stainless steel. Summit has them

Yeah weld it if possible. Otherwise the band clamps that auto stores have will probably be those junky u-bolt clamps and they work until you get quality band clamps. Check Amazon for some good ones
