A private mechanic told me 750 for a cam install. Do you guys think that's too much for an out of shop job?

That almost sounds too cheap lol most shops will charge you $1800-2400 to do cam install ( including cam and support mods for cam)

$2400 for a cam install sounds insane. If that's the price I'm never gonna get it done. Here I thought $2500 would suffice for the a cam. Guess I'll be waiting a while.

I'm confused now? I said it would be around $1800-2400 and you said you were planning on spending $2500 and some how it isn't enough? Unless I missed something?

$2400 for just the install is a whole lot more than I was planning on. Unless you meant that's for the cam, install and tune then that's another story. CPR told me around 2500 for the cam install and tune which might be what you meant by the $2400. I was just trying to keep it under that and go with a out of shop mechanic to save me some money but seems like the difference won't be much. Might end up just spending a little more and going with CPR and just let them do the installm

Yea that's why I wrote that was for the install plus (Cam and supporting mods for cam) and yes that including tune...other option is save about another $2500 and buy a new or used LSA S/C for around 3-4k and get it installed and you will have around same power if not a little more with basic supporting mods. Or you can do what I did, and get Cam and plan for N2O

The last thing you want to do is cheap out on cam install. Thats just not an area where you pinch pennies. Do it once, do it right. But just remember, as with any aftermarket parts, youre putting more strain on the engine to run a bigger cam. So make sure you either have the funds or the know how to fix something when it comes up...because it will.

For $750 in labor, I would just take it to CPR. You know it will be done right. Your going to be $500 into Nic D for a tune, + $1000 in parts, so the difference isn't much.

What you want is to have the parts , tune and install done by a good shop like CPR . That way if something go's wrong they will stand behind it . If good results with no hassle is what your after ,don't cheap out .

I took the advice and just contacted Joe and asked him to give me a quote to get it all done at CPR. Hoping it doesn't scare me away haha really looking forward to being in the 460 whp range.

460rwhp is more than just a cam though. That is a good CAI, good headers, maybe ported intake/etc.

I'll have TSP 2" LTs, CAI cai and race scoop. You don't think I'll break 460 with that installed? I thought the 2014s put up a little better numbers because of electric steering?

It should do it, race scoop doesn't do anything BTW. It's a gimmick.
