Seller says 2nd gear slipping!
Just need some advice. I plan on looking at a 2000 Camaro SS Automatic and the buyer says that 2nd gear is out meaning that it slips when the car goes into second gear. Is this a sign that the transmission needs to be replaced or can it be something else?
If its the transmission, how much would it cost to be rebuilt or replaced? Thanks in advance for everyones help.

How many miles?
What color is the fluid? Most likely needs to be rebuilt...cost all depends on your connections. Could be anywhere from $800 to $3000...for the same rebuild....there's only so many ways to rebuild a 4L60E. It just depends on how much the mechanic thinks you know and how to shop for a rebuild. |

Likely the tranny is out, just picked up one with the same problem. I would plan on 1500-2000 for a good 4l60E and at which point it would probably be beneficial to go with a high stall torque converter another $500. You could also go with a 4L80E swap for about 3500 if you want to build it up with quite a bit of power.
It all depends on what you want to do, mine kinda snowballed, I pulled the tranny and decided with how much of a pain it was to get out I ended up getting a tq converter, tci flex plate (which I think is a must even if staying stock as the factory flex plates were weak), tq arm, tranny mount, motor mounts, deep oil pan, headers and added a tranny cooler to help it live longer. I figured I would replace all of this at once since I already had it all out. It turns out a $1500 repair turned into a $3000 project.

If you can't afford the rebuild then you can go the junkyard. Or private seller route. I did and my trans lasted 8 years so far. I'm just now dealing with TCC sensor now but 8 years is not to bad for 350 bucs. Now you may or may not last that long but at least it will buy you some time till you can save for a rebuild. 4l603 are all over so it shouldn't be hard to track one down cheap.
