Great LS7 Article

Many have probably read this and, yes, it's an old article about the LS7 for the Z06, but it's still a great read.

You read this article, you realize what we have in our very limited production cars is the last of this legendary NA engine . . . and yet Z/28 prices have fallen well below MSRP. I just can't get my mind around that.

We all understand the principles of supply and demand, and obviously here there has to have been more supply than demand--- I just don't know why that is. Only 440 non-demo 2014 Z/28's ever built . . . and prices dropped? Yes, the market has spoken--- I just don't know where the market for such rare cars went? Has the, "Just take an Uber" mentality eroded interest in cars as a hobby that much?

GM changed retail to around $50,000. No one would pay $50,000 for a used one when a new one was $50,000. People have no idea what this car is and think the ZL1 is better. I get asked every time I take the car some where why I did not get a ZL1 and how much HP does the ZL1 have. It will take a while for these cars to recover.

GM's marketing on these cars flat sucked and trashed the sales.

I think it depends on what you are going to do with the car. The ZL1 is a better drag racer and more comfortable daily driver, the Z/28 is a purer driver's car and better track car. Having both to choose from means it is a great day to be a car guy.

I've never had anyone suggest that the ZL1 is better, but am sure there are plenty who believe it due to significantly higher HP and Torque numbers.

A lot people dumped these cars w/ very low mileage (way too hard core for most...), which def hurt sales of new cars. Why pay $75K when you could get one w/ 500 miles for $20k less (or even less). Also, at end of 2015, GM provided incentives that allowed dealers to sell them at deep discounts. Again, that hurt future new car sales unless dealers were willing to take a hit and sell at a discount.

Add to that the fact that everyone was talking about how hard core it is. That alone scared off plenty of folks. Almost kept me from buying one. Even Fbodfather came on here and emphatically told people that it wasn't a street car. So much misinformation... I remember people talking about CCBs costing $20K and only lasting 25k miles or something ridiculous.

In the end all of this will just add to it's legend.

Good points and disagree w/ some who felt he can't influence marketing. If not, he wouldn't have been doing all those interviews. I think they marketed it okay, but it was all about it's track prowess. E.g. a lot of people I meet don't know that AC was optional. They pitched it as a hard core track car. Not enough folks w/ $75k were willing to bite and the majority of others were spooked.

Interestingly, Dodge seems to be the only of the 3 that really cares about marketing to the masses.

Good read.

The Z/28 is a superior car on the track vs. a stock ZL1. But since most peeps will never track their cars it's a lost point to the fast majority.

I think over time the 5th Gen Z/28 will start to increase is value.
