My dealer said I would have to pay the difference between the 5w-30 Mobile 1 and the new oil for my free oil change. Shouldn't be much.

2 Things. First, I just got my oil changed a hour ago and used the new fill. They told me I would have to pay the difference in price between the 5w-30 and the 0w-40 ESP. At the end of it all they charged me nothing as it was my second free oil change. Maybe because I am a employee, who knows. They said the ESP was 10.00 a quart. Takes 10 quarts. Secondly, Some on here have said the car felt a little quicker and smoother with the new oil. Also said maybe they where imagining it. Well all I can say is either its true or I am imaging it as well. Lower viscosity, less friction, more power???? Who knows, feels faster to me!!!! Got the new oil filler cap for 5.18 in parts dept. They had to order it. "no shipping" LOL.

0w40 ESP is a no go from 3 online sources, (gmparts direct, gm parts giant, cheapest gm parts) and stated no ETA from GM. Anyone have an online source?

Does the rear diff (elsd) fluid need to be changed at 500 miles just like the engine oil?

Or at 1500 ?

Both.

Technically, you'll find no official thing saying you "NEED" to change it other than the track prep manual but I can tell you that mine at 600 miles was about 50% gone, same for the oil. Changing both of these fluids at 500 and 1500 is a pampering your car a bit but I'm more than willing to do it for my cars so doesn't bother me, just leaves me peace of mind and no doubt that any damage, however minor, is being done. There's a lot of nasty break in grease and shards that build up being a new diff, the magnetic rear diff plug was also pretty gunked up.

TL;DR - Get both changed. And use the GM/AC Delco stuff listed in the original post.

The manual calls for 45,000 miles for both normal and severe duty. But I too changed the diff fluid at 1500 mi. just to get any break-in fines out of the diff. Honestly, my gear lube looked great and had no metal fines that I could detect. I am still glad I changed it as it is super cheap insurance and I have piece of mind.

1,500 and it's just the diff and not the (elsd) which has it's own separate reservoir and is like a $700 job.

OK, that screen shot about the 0w-40 DEXTOS 2 for the Camaro LT4 looks to be a mobile oil document. Is there a GM document that states that? I do see that the ZL1 has it listed in the High Performance owners supplement for track use. But, it also says the 15W-50 for the 1LE for track use. So, not sure if my 1LE would be OK on the track with the 0w-40. If I run 15W-50 on the track, I'm not sure 0W-40 for the street is worth it.

I get that people like it, and as a rule I try to use the lowest W number and a high end number so it sounds great. But, trying to follow GM's direction for a while anyway. If anyone has a link or can reference a GM publication that would be great.

Boys, I contemplating doing my own 500 mile service (changing the engine and differential oil).

Is there anything else the dealer is supposed to look for during this 500 mile service? I want to make sure I cover all my bases when I’m under the car in my driveway.

Thank you men.
