You sure can mill LS3 heads... I did it. Did you mean that you can't mill LS3 heads and use an F35 cam without fly cutting? If so, then I agree.

there is no way that a cam only (assuming minimum supporting mods [headers and tune]) L99 will hit 500RWHP if a cam only LS3 vette cant either
500 cam only is easily achievable brother. 520 is doable. You need a good intake and spin it to 75-7600 You can get crazy with fuel if you want like FTW or CHP and bump those numbers. Not many go outside the box of simple bolt ons and see subpar results. The more efficient you make the drivetrain such as microblue bearings on everything youll be surprised what you can accomplish NA stock cubes.

an auto c6 vette would hit 500 to the tire with this cam... well 498.6X which is splitting hairs in my opinion. the last 1.4 rwhp is for bragging rights only, and its so close i'd call it 500 rwhp anyway.

this is using a TSP engine dyno chart reading of 576.6 and a 15% drivetrain loss (which was done using a stock L99. TSP themselves said the recorded HP would have been +10 with an LS3) 586.6 x 15% gets you 87.99 loss.

link for TSP chart: https://ls1tech.com/forums/generatio...-camshaft.html

edit: i agree an L99 Camaro probably won't hit 500 rwhp but it should be within 485-495 depending on conditions

xc_SS/RS, its interesting you mentioined that cam. We tried that cam on an auto C6 LS3 vette and the best we got out of it was 481rwhp.

interesting... my calc definitely fails to consider how an engine will perform being in a car vs on an engine stand... good numbers though. what supporting mods were/are on the car?

I didn’t mean for the back and forth bickering lol but I appreciate all the input and I was just curious as to what everyone thought. Gpi is claiming 500hp out the l99s. Just curious to see the proof on a true dyno. I talked to them today about a heads and cam package, the cam being a ss3 and their heads which I want to say are 260cc heads and the guy I was talking to said I would see around 530 with that package I just can’t see it personally. Anybody does this package and can vouch for it?

Are you L99 or LS3? I'm guessing you are talking about their LS7 max performance package with those numbers.

GPI most definitely has several L99/auto SBE cars that have knocked out 500+rwhp. You can't get tunnel vision on this dyno number chasing though - it's just not a reliable way to measure performance - just a tuning tool. If you're not convinced that the GPI stuff is the fastest go take a look at the fast NA/SBE list - which is dominated by cars with GPI cams. Not a coincidence.

If you're just chasing a dyno number just make sure you spend some time studying your local dyno options - you'll learn who has the "happiest" dyno.

Amen! My 453SAE RWHP goes mid 10s lol but people cry when i post my 470STD numbers so either way my 1/4 and mph make them really cry too so i am not sure what the best resolution is to make people understand efficiency is key.

https://gwatneyperformance.com/produ...d-cam-package/

Custom GPI LS7 heads modified to fit LS3/L99, Custom GPI cam, and you can pick between a LS7 intake or the better MSD LS7 intake.
