Harbor freight, got the blast gun and the corse media for twenty five bucks a piece. The media should be enough to last a lifetime.

Are you planning on doing another cleaning this year and posting pics? Also do you use a clean side separator?

Thanks

I remember doing this to my LLT way back in the day. Definitely a huge improvement.

I'd also like to point out that I was using a catch can the whole time and still ended up with some valve coking. It was a lot of manual labor on the LLT as the intake valves are positioned differently and I couldn't get a good angle to blast with walnut shells. For anyone with an LFX, that $50 for the blaster is a great idea!

I plan on at least taking a look as I am gonna take off my intake manifold for additional porting. May clean them. Will take pics and post. I currently am not running a clean side separator.

I am curious what tools are really needed. I didn't realize at first that the gun was an air tool. I am planning to be like most of the people here and making use of the local Harbor Freight. From what I see here, I think I need the following:

-Compressor
-Air hose
-Blast gun
-Walnut media

What is an appropriate size compressor to have in the garage? I have wanted one anyway. I used to have a wheelbarrow-style one that was just awkward to store, so I am looking for something a little smaller.

If there is anything else I am missing, please do let me know. I am open to suggestions. I am also curious how to turn the engine to make sure the valves being cleaned are indeed closed.

(Make sure engine is in N) Pull the plugs, throw a 19MM and a breaker bar on the crankshaft bolt, and rotate clockwise.

A small compressor will work. You will just have to wait a minute for it to build up. I used a small 4 gallon tank, with with 2.5 cfm. But I recommend getting the 16 or 24 gallon and at least 4 cfm. They have oil less one that size for under 200. Oil using compressors are more powerful and cheaper but require maintenance.

How much do you think a shop might charge to do this process? I am renting, and don't have the time or space to do it myself.

It’s not real cheap, I think Tracy Lewis said his shop charges 400.
