You have to remember that car in the mototrend had the glass roof option. If I remember correctly that adds about 20 lbs to the car.

I think Ford's official curb weight for the 2011 base GT is 3603lbs.

Actually, you can still get banned while following all the politeness rules.

You get a lot less weight with 15" than 20's too. I think you'd need to switch over to the V-6 brakes if you wanted to fit 15's on the Camaro.

I imagine that would save some weight too.

By the way, anyone here seen the fiberglass thing they use to cover the battery in the SS? If they were putting the SS on a diet they missed a 3 gallon tub of ice cream in the trunk! That spare/battery cover weighs a ton! And why does the "nut" they screw the thing down with weigh as much as a brick? What's the point?

Looks like the 'stang is a speck faster, but as others have said; driver's race.

In a straight line, that is.

Put 'em on a road course, and it's over: the Mustang will CRUSH the SS and leave it for dead. The whole weight/handling issue will render it a non-competition.

Sadly.

SS is in dire need of a track pack.

Car and Drivers premium GT with Brembos weighed in at 3580 accrding to them, in any case 3700 pounds is a huge stretch.

Hate to say---

I have a 2SS/RS Man and love it, but we have to keep in mind
the 5.0 is considerably smaller than the 6.2 and to even be close is an accomplishment on Fords part.
I think the Getrag/Ford 6 speed manual won't be prone to breaking
it's output shaft, and the solid rear axle doesn't have any CV joints to break
also I like the option of the 3:73 gear.
Ford has a history of getting HP out of small displacement engines,
I used to work on boats and the same model 19ft runabout
with the 97 Ford 5.0 Fi out of a Mustang GT would tear up the same model with a 5.7 Chevy 4 BBL engine.
I am not biased towards Ford, but I am simply stating the facts.
No I wouldn't buy one
