DIY: Run A Manual Trunk Latch Cable Around Your Sub Enclosure
Ever wonder how you will open your trunk if the trunk latch motor fails, and you cannot access the child safety latch? The only way I could think of doing
it is to stomp my sub enclosure out of the way. I have searched for info on the web but have not found any aftermarket cables, but I did find that the convertible camaro has such a cable, because they cannot pull down the seat to access the child safety latch. So I ordered the cable from GM Parts House, #20995417, and although my trunk lid does not have the same mounting holes, I was able to easily install and route the cable in under an hour after work today. An easy rainy day project that gives me peace of mind. I slapped together a PDF on how to do it... Please excuse my crappy photos and ignorance at making professional PDF files. Before I routed the cable to sit behind the seat I routed it outside the trunk and closed it. The trunk lid did not crimp the cable, it just fit fine, then I pulled it to verify it was easy to open the trunk. See the video: http://youtu.be/UVldrKEH1Uw

Great idea! It's the little things like this that make the forum such a good place to learn new tricks to overcome problems we all encounter occasionally.

I just chopped my handle off at the cable.
I wanted a clear liner for my Artwork. I back filled and stuck a small piece of the floor liner over the small remaining hole, then pained my Trunk Lid Liner. Was it a bad thing to do? To cut it off? Seemed like it was just loose and inactive unless you really had a need to pull it. Is that why my Car Alarm is sensitive? Can't think why.... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

If it's easy to remove your artwork panel, you could open the latch, remove the child safety cable completely, and mount the remote cable. Then run it somewhere else, either on the other side of your sub inclosure, or in your trunk where you can put the "glow in the dark" child safety handle back on, possible on the side of the sub enclosure where it can be reached from both inside the trunk or from behind the seat?

DIY: Run A Manual Trunk Latch Cable Around Your Sub Enclosure
This part number is for a 2011 to 2013 Camaro.
Will it work on my 2010? GMPartsHouse is unsure? Thx. Last edited by redleader; 02-19-2014 at 03:23 PM. |

I would recommend you open your trunk latch sliding door and see if it looks like the one in the pdf to be sure.

***ALERT*** Old Thread ***ALERT***
Thx for this rray. I'd been wanting to do something like this for quite some time because the roll bar blocks the rear seat when you try to lay it down.
WOW, I did not notice how dirty the quarter panel was until I looked at the picture........now clean. Also the clips can be removed with a small screwdriver or fingernail
