strange sound

This is just weird. so I go to the garage to take out the trash and as I walk by my car I hear a pop noise. car has been parked all night. this was not the only time that me or someone else (wife) has heard it do that.
Im thinking something is relaxing after being hot but I have heard it when the car hasn't even been driven in a couple of days.
any ideas?

Cat? I've known cats to sleep in and around parked cars.

I used to hear sharp pops when driving my truck and the same sound driving my Camaro. Turned out to be the plastic water bottle setting in the console. The sun would expand the air in the bottle and then pop the wrinkles out. Unnerving.

From the rear/trunk area of the car? The EVAP systems run self check periodically after the vehicle has been sitting a while, and have valves that click on and off, some cars can be rather loud, maybe this is the noise you noticed?

I had the popping from the trunk area on my old 2010, usually after just switching it off, not heard it on the 2015 as yet.
