CarDomain Blog - 2010 Camaro SS: Meet the Back Roads Brawler

Edit: More posts about their experience...

Driving a new red Camaro makes you a total rock star. People were stopping in their tracks, yelling at us, whistling, swerving their cars and trucks over toward us, giving us the thumbs up and generally acting like total idiots around this car. We literally could not go one block in Manhattan or Brooklyn without making some kind of scene.

This is killing me...he makes it sound like the auto blows! From what I understand, the auto is just as fast and I don't see why the exhaust would sound any different as he said. How much can we trust this guys opinion? I know there are plenty of members here who may have already had a chance to drive both the SS auto and stick...and it seems the impression was they were both fantastic.

Doesn't the auto have a 0.1 second faster 0-60? 4.6 auto vs 4.7 manual

I think it may be a biased opinion regarding the auto vs. manual transmissions.
For me, almost any vehicle that comes in both flavors, the auto is going to 'suck' compared to the manual; but that's just me, I prefer the manual transmissions. And before anyone decides to flame me, yes, I do know that some automatics are better at *insert something here* than manuals; I don't care, I prefer manuals

You also have to remember that for a stock car, the auto trans isn't going to be set for harder shifts, it will be set for smooth shifts and comfort compared to what you could expect of the same car with a manual in it. And most automatics aren't designed to be bullet-proofed for hard launches and the torque and strain of a racer (for that matter a lot of manual trans aren't either), but you get my point I'm sure.

I honestly believe that unless you are used to, or expect a strip-power launch every single time the light turns green, that you will be happy with the automatic transmission.

Keep in mind this is just a blog and not a real article with reputable people. Anyone can write a blog. Also, yes the Auto is faster off the line, but loses in the 1/4 according to most reports.

You can't take any one review as being 100% fact. It's just his opinion. We do know that the Auto is faster than the manual it's just his "butt dyno" that thinks the manual is faster. To me it always feels like manual cars are faster, even if they aren't. Don't let one person's opinion sway you. Now if every review said the auto sucked (which is far from the case) then the situation would be totally different. I think almost every review has said something that goes directly against what a lot of the other reviews have said.

Well it's more than just some random dude. He does write for a legit website/blog. Blogs are here to stay. A few years ago people would've said the same things about Jalopnik and Autoblog but now they're considered reputable sources.

Im impressed with what he had to say in his earlier video he seemed pissed off because he could not feel the full force of the camaro while doing city driving and for him to have a change of mind all of a sudden while still test driving it still in city condition i am pretty impressed , i really like what he has to say now about the camaro, great video post UCF gotta love it......

As the difference between manual and Auto in short auto i dont feel like i have full controll but manuel i feel like i have full controll of the vehicle as though the car is part of me like i am the missing ingredient to the equation.......
