I'm old-school. I'm not going to rely on a cell phone or the lowest roadside assistance bidder to come change a tire for me.

I've got an LS, so all 4 tires are the same size, and they're not directional.

I bought a matching 18" OE wheel and tire complete with TPMS. I keep it in rotation with the other 4 tires, so during every rotation, one of the tires gets to take the place of the spare. I also reprogram TPMS at the same time. The Jack and lug wrench live under the trunk floor along with other tools.

The unfortunate part is that the tire/wheel does occupy about 75% of the usable trunk space. But, with the wheel face-down, it makes a nice little cubby for groceries or other small items and keeps them in place on the way home.

I use a SS front wheel with a 245/30zr/20" falken tire for a spare.( discount tire ).It fits in the trunks spare wheel well, it sticks up about 2 "s
I only use this setup when going out of town.. I carry the compressor all the time, the spare is just in case the foam doesn't work..
Of course the dance with front and back would be done if back is flat..

As long as the diameter is the same as a rear tire, no problem.
If you are going full sized spare, it's not the width that is the issue, it's diameter.

I bought a spare rim and saved my best old tire when I bought tires. Only load up the spare for road trips

I also bought a used stock front rim, a new Cooper Zeon RS3-3 tire (they are non directional, just like the P Zero so can be used on either side of the car), and a jack, wrench, strap, etc. from the dealer. I don't mind carrying a full sized spare in my trunk at all times.

Spare tires on the back are more dangerous....smaller diameter changes the geometry of the suspension....it unweights the opposite front tire compromising steering and braking, and can cause differential problems. I've always heard spare tires on front only unless you're limping along at 10 mph in breakdown lane....donut spare tires arent designed to be installed longer than it takes to get to a repair facility....most say 50 miles max disrance on them and have a speed limit too.

I've had several cars with space saver spares and none of them have said anything about only using them on the front or the rear for that matter regardless of the tire size. Obviously they were meant for low speeds and only up to 50 miles.

I have a stock OEM SS front full size wheel with a Pzero tire on it in my trunk with all the stuff it takes to change, plug or last resort use the sealant kit so I can take care of a flat and be on my way no matter where I may be. Not everyone is willing to give up their trunk space and add the weight. But it works for me.

I have the full size front wheel in my SS, along with a lug wrench and scissor jack.

AAA does not go everywhere. For example, on the NY State thruway, you have to call the Thuways's contracted tow service, and last time I needed them late at night, they didn't answer the phone.

Lot of threads on this issue:
Special ordered my 2011 2LT back in May 2010. My stupid for not checking the correct box for the Canadian $175 spare tire option ($150 option in the US). Later, after deliver, reading Camaro5, realized I did not have a spare tire. My GM dealer then charged me more than $500 to have the spare tire option installed.

My stupid but still worth the money to have a spare tire and jack in the car.
Note: If you have the spare tire, once a year check spare tire inflation. About 5 years ago driving my 1998 Riviera in nowhere Florida, had a flat. Spare tire was factory original from 1998. Of course spare was flat because air had not been checked for more than a decade.
