when you tap the traction control button is it really turning off ? Do you see the yellow light in the dash turn on ?

you can do a burnout in practically any automatic. you just power brake the heck out of it. Not recommended though of course. Heck, I could peel out in my Mazda B3000 150-hp truck!
your wallet may thank you for not doing burnouts though

On the serious side..It does seem odd...Mine broke loose this morning and the TC was on. Granted I have an M6 but still...

mine smokes them right up with no problem, sounds like there is a problem if it won't burn even with the brake.
