Oil Pump went 2011 2SS 3700 miles

Driving to my parents the other day i noticed my oil guage was near zero but hovering around 10 or so.. i said to myself thats very very low.. weird.. anyway got to my parents and turned the car off.. Did what i had to do there for a few hours.. came back out started the car pulled out of the driveway waved to dad and then BAM oil pressure guage at zero DIC instructed me to turn engine off low oil pressure.. I go wtf .. Dad looked at me and went whats wrong i showed him.. I pulled the car into a parking spot in his development.. and said wow this is wacked out wtf.. I turned the car on once again to see if it was a glitch or something and i started to hear knocking i go F this!! and turned the car off immediatley. Called onstar and chevy roadside assistance picked the car up and flat-bedded it to the dealer the next morning.

Get the car to the dealer and they look at it.. First off I have to say TOP notch to On star chevy roadside and the dealer so far.. !st class treatment.. Very professional over there.. I talked with Brian at Sun. who is on the forums.. Great guy saw him a few times at some cruise meets etc.. Anyway.. They put me in a rental.. and They have the car till monday. It was definitley the oil pump.. WOW at 3700 miles.. I did see a few things on the board about this happening though on the LS3 but 2010 models.. I have a 2011.. Anyway.. I am picking the car up monday all covered under warranty We will see how it goes from there..

I'm just pissed how a car with 3700 miles on it has an oil pump go.. They checked the cam lifters valves etc.. no damage .. I guess I will know when I really drive the car but still..THANK GOD i wasn't driving on a road trip or a long distance or like 70 on the highway when this happened I could have seized the engine..

Anybody else have the actual oil pump go?

I haven't had mine go, but be very grateful that things happen the way they do for a reason. Like you said, you could have been on the road or in a much worse situation. Also, the fact that you turned the car off when you did clearly had to have saved you from major damage.

Look at it this way, you are still under warranty and you will be fine in just a few days. Minor setback, but at least you are safe...it didn't cause an accident...and no major engine damage.

Let us know what happened when you get the car back.

Sounds like they are taking care of you.

But yes it still sucks to have a major problem with so few miles.

Willing to bet it is the pressure releif valve stuck in the pump.

Still ridiculous-I just took a road trip to cape cod and in the back of my mind before leaving was this oil pump issue.I shouldn't have to be worried about chit like that with a car with under 7000 miles on it.

That's the very reason I'm not doing any engine modding till the warranty expires.

I know a guy with a heavily modded car and the same thing happened to him! Oil pump replaced under warranty because it is a known issue!

I even have had warranty work done on my tranny with mods, just really depends on your dealer and service dept I guess!

With all the engines that they make, a few of them HAVE to have problems. They are machines.

Sorry to hear about your car...hopefully its as good as new when you get it back..I agree with what other people have mentioned...it sucks we have to worry about this stuff on brand new cars...i know some of you will defend gm till the end but c'mon...I'm a mechanic for a living (work on bmws) and some of these issues that we have with these cars are unacceptable for being close to 40k dollars. This is my second camaro and my whole family drives gm products..its just how i grew up...but seriously..I mean this isn't a 9k dollar Hyundai....okay sorry for the rant...good luck man and I'm glad they are taking care of you
