Shifter question

My phone won't let me search on this site for some reason so I'll just ask it.
I toasted my clutch this year so since I need to replace that I'm debating about installing a mgw shifter while the tranny is down, so my question is how much better is the mgw shifter vs my factory hurst shifter? Is there a big enough difference to justify the cost

A very subjective question. I love my MGW.

I’ve never seen a used MGW for sale, but I’ve seen a few Hursts.

If you were swapping from a standard shifter I’d pick an MGW because it edges out the Hurst, but since you already have the Hurst I’d stick with it. The MGW isn’t THAT superior over the Hurst to justify the swap. While the MGW might be better, I doubt you’re trying to shave .001 seconds off whatever times you’re seeking.

Thank you for your opinion, looks like I need to just pull the trigger and order a mgw

I had one in my 2010 and when it got totaled stuff was to mangled to get it out. So when my clutch goes out on my current one, which feels like will be soon, I’ll be putting an mgw in. Would never do that install again with the trans in the car

I have had 3 shifters in my car. Factory, MGW, and Factory Hurst.

The original shifter worked fine. Long throws, quiet, crappy baseball knob.

The MGW shifter with their "Race" knob is an amazing setup. Nothing else like it. Short throws, nice "click-click" between gears. Made me drive a little more aggressively, made slightly more noise under load as compared to the GM shifter.

The GM factory Hurst with the MGW Race knob is what I ended up with. Short throws, fits the hand perfecty, quiet. Sold my used MGW for good money to a forum member.

MGW is amazing but it just does not solve a problem for me. I still hit all the gears, stay quiet, used money for other things.

The Race knob is a MUST have though. Feels perfect, fits the stock boot and looks like it was factory.

Hope this helps.

Your using the mgw race knob, and if so which race knob did you go with?

This one is perfect. Mounted to the factory Hurst shifter. Sorry for the sideways pix. Chrome ring on the knob matches the ring on the steering wheel (for 2010) and the "SS" logo matches the GM logo.

MGW wants a firm selection of first gear, guest drivers, techs can easily find third and stall. Second to third is a nice springy snap, the rest just flows with practice.
