Trucool 40k
So I have had a trucool 40k on my car for a little while now but my trans temp still reach 180 and some on normal driving... I have even replaced the trans and it still reach 180. Currently I have it running the the radiator for a 2 stage cooling. Trying to see if that's where it supposed to be or what. I felt like it ran cooler without it

Depends on who you ask, but somewhere around 180 is about right. The thermostat I installed on mine is 180.
Mine sure didn't run cooler before the install and it's the size smaller Trucool. |

Are you running through the radiator also? Mine bypasses the radiator and has an inline thermostat for the trans cooler only.

On mine it stays around 170*-180* with the same set up you have that being the tranny cooler.

Well you have a high stall converter though I'm still using the stock converter. But mine was getting to around 210* or so after my dyno tune. So that's when I installed the true cool.

You didn’t install the thermal by pass did you?
I have a tru cool on my truck .l92 w/6l80 and my temps stay around 130-150 max and that’s me romping on it . I have a circle d 3k stall .. The thermal bypass doesn’t work for the 6l80 , from what I’ve read . So I never installed it . From what I remember the thermal bypass doesn’t open up till you hit 160 deg or something like that , which is too hot for our trannnys well for the 6l80 at least .. I kept the line going through the radiator aswell. That’s helps warm up the fluid . Haven’t went thru a winter yet but I’m planning on zip tiring card board informs of the trans cooler this winter |

I installed the thermal bypass on mine. It sits right at the 180 mark all of time once it warms up. That's much better than the 220+ it might reach before I added it.

Mine isn't ran through the radiator and I wanted it to heat up during the winter. I consider 180 to be an acceptable temperature for an automatic transmission. Everyone has their own idea of what is the right number, but lower isn't necessarily better. I once had the discussion on here with someone that swore 170 was the perfect number, but mine at 10 degrees higher was terribly hot.

Nothing wrong with 180 temp. As long as your under 200 your good.
