2003 4l80e swap
Anyone put this new of a 4l80 in? I'm trying to install one but see no way in hell it's going to fit. I cut the frame for the plug like Dietcoke showed to but my plug is up higher. I would have to cut into the floor pan. and the passanger side pan housing is hitting the frame so that side wont pull up to the block.
If anyone has used this tranny please help. And any pictures you might have on the install. Last edited by Nitroman28; 09-27-2014 at 03:24 PM. |

I didn't realize you had to cut threw the floor pan. But I can get the plug.in now. I beat on the passenger side some but the Trans is still touching. Don't understand why it's so tight on that side. Plenty of room on the other side.

What are you using to adapt the stock cross member to the new transmission and mount? I wonder if it is possible to lower the trans a little without ruining the geometry and fix the pan clearance issues?

I used the plate from ADM. You would have to bring it down a lot to gain space on the side. I'm just a afraid if the motor torques hard or a motor mount breaks the bell housing will break. I just wonder if I have something wrong with my setup. A lot of high HP cars running this trans in the 5th gen.

Get out the persuader and make a little clearance. That will fix it.

I had to clearance both sides of my tunnel with the newer case like you are running. Also the rear tranny cooler line is a pita. I ended up cutting a hole in the tunnel for easy access. I am not a pro by any stretch but you are more than welcome to text me with questions 6one074one37eleven.

You have to cut high on the plug side and pound a ton of the inner shell out of the way. As far as the passanger pan clearance I had to pound the tunnel and grind away some of the lip of the pan and case it actually didn't even fit completly clear of the tunnel until I had everything in its final place. I had a real hard time getting them to mate up because it was hitting the tunnel, so I used a longer bolt to get it started on the passanger side squeezing them together until I could get the other bolts on that side started. Once I did that everything fell perfectly into place and lined up like it was supposed to be there.

What all did you guys trim off of the case? Dietcoke had some nice photos on his write-up, but they are all gone now. Getting ready to start my swap this weekend...
