Solid cradle bushings half way in

So I followed the instructions for removing the old ones and mission accomplished. But now when it comes to the install I’m stuck at half way.

I had the new bushings in the freezer.

I think my problem might be I half assed it at cleaning the holes out. I got a wire brush drill wheel for when I do the other side.

So now that I’m half in. Do you think I can just muscle them in by tightening the bolt or should I press them back out and clean the hole better?

Open to suggestions

I would only "force" them in if they're almost all the way in, like a quarter inch from seating or so, and I'd use a jack to do it instead of the bolt so that you won't possibly strip the threads.

I'd pull those back out, make sure the hole is clean (put bushings back in freezer while doing this) and then make sure the bushings go in perfectly straight. When I cleaned the holes I made sure the plastic residue was still warm and used a long knife to scrape.

When I did mine I got them in as far in as I could by hand then used a rubber mallet to bash them in as evenly as possible. One or two didn't go all the way in but were ~quarter inch off, so using the mallet I got them sitting as evenly as possible then pushed them in with a jack.

Wire brush all of the crap out of the holes. Lube up all of the parts, and the holes. Install the Top Bushings first, then the Bottom's, then the Steel Inserts. I flipped the tool around as necessary and did this in steps. Note – it is very unlikely that you can use the Vehicle’s weight or Cradle Bolts to seat the Rear Bushings, it will strip them.

I used a long 3/4" bolt, washers and the steel insert. Like Hester said, I put tops in first. The holes were pretty clean and they pulled right in with an old impact I use for situation requiring less than 100lbft.

I would pull them back out. When we did mine after, after we got the old ones out we used a wire brush and cleaned the crap out of the inner holes of the cradle real good, then before we installed the solids we put a thin film of oil on BOTH the bushings AND the inner mount holes and they just slipped right in, no forcing. Als make sure they go in straight because if the get crooked a bit it will give you problems to get them straight again. Take your time and go slow and you won't have any problems. Good luck.

I ran into this with the poly bushings. The problem I found was the frame hole is not perfectly round but the bushings are. I cleaned, lubed the hole, froze the bushing but still did not work. I ended up sanding down the bushing to get it in.

It stiil needs to be a tight (compression) fit for best results.

The aluminum ones are a beotch to get in. Definitely don’t muscle it- you’ll just make things worse. The front ones are easy, the big back ones aren’t. Gotta make sure it’s clean. That burnt plastic residue is the truth.

I used a rotary hand grinder with a flapper wheel to clean up the old residue in the cradle , worked great!

Pull it back out for sure. I warmed the metal surface as mine cooled down and used a wire brush on the end of a drill to clean mine. Bushings are tight, but they should go in.

The adventure continues! So of course the bushing are in there halfway. I got a hemonic balancer pulley and it’s working beautifully. So well in fact it’s pushing the jack down or heck maybe lifting the car. Either it’s creating a gap vs pulling the bushing out. So I’m thinking heat the cradle? Or just crank on the balancer more? Really striking out here.

i have had luck in the past with stuck parts by applying the pressure to pull it and then tap around the side of the part lightly with a hammer. The harmonic of the tapping caused the part to jump a little. Then reapply the pressure and repeat.
