3.91 in A6...what's wrong?

Top speed test...shift denied 5th -> 6th!

I installed GM 3.91 gears kit on my 2010 Camaro L99 A6 and I recalibrated my tune with hp tuners (gire/tyre wizard).
Stock tyre 27,79 (no change)
gear ratio 3.27 -> 3.91
--------------------------
multiplier = 0,836

I try top speed (German autobahn) but I cannot shift 5th->6th (DIC shift denied) and the car comes to rev limiter 5900 rpm (approximately 228 km/h = 141 mph).

which tables should i pay attention to?

Just to confirm, your speedometer is reading correctly now after the gear swap?

I haven't personally experienced the same issue as you, but I do know that I had to raise the rev limiter settings after installing my new cam, and I'm pretty certain there are max speed limits that you might need to look at.

Fastest way is to use the blucat tool with your hptuners. That will line it all out for you.

I used it when I swapped mine to 3.91 back when I ran that.

My Rev limit was also higher at the time so you may want to play with that a little but don't get crazy if you still have the afm and stock vvt valvetrain ( phase movement will get very upset at too high of a rev limit with full range still active)

Start with the blucats and report back.

I had already removed max speed limit and bluecat settings but nothing.

I will try to manipulate the data again with bluecat program.

Then you need to dig into your shift points and adjust them accordingly. Tell it to command the shift at the rpm/speed you want it at.

If you look at your shift tables it has mim/max and up/down sectioned out on the tables.

Question SAME ISSUE

Hi, I have same issue after installing 3.91 gears... Mine also don't want to shift from 5th to 6th at 247 km/h. Did you found out what is the problem? Is it fixable with tune?

Uhhh…..it’s a safety lockout. You are not supposed to pull 6th gear in the automatic trans. You will more than likely burn it up doing that, hence why it’s got a safety lockout on it. Try putting it in 6th and accelerating up to top speed, it will auto downshift into 5th at a certain point.

Lots of factory tunes will deny the 5-6 shift at WOT. With the new 3.91, it will still do it and of course you will max out the 5'th gear speed even sooner.
The settings needs to be changed manually so that it will do the 5-6 shift in WOT.

Is this fixable by custom tuner or im just overgeared? Or that means I need increase overall rpm range for engine revving(i am with afm i cant do it till 6700).

I checked this morning and yes, the factory tune won't let you shift from 5-6 at WOT.Theirs a few tables that needs to be changed.
The factory settings is set to do the 5-6 shift at 200mph with 87% throttle,226mph with 94% throttle,246mph at 100% throttle with the stock 3.27 gears. So 80% and up throttle position would need top be lowered in the part throttle tables and also the full throttle shift speed, stock setting is at 311mph.

I lowered mine a bit, but so far, I don't think I'll ever need it. Sometimes we go play at the local airport and so far, I do 200mph from 0-5000 ft(under 1 mile) and I'm still in 5th gear. I raised my RPM so that it doesn't shift in 6th.I have 3.23 gears and I rev past 7000rpm.So I don't need 6th gear. A stock body Gen 5 Camaro is not really designed to go 200+mph. Some have received damaged to their front bumper on top of the grille,it gets ripped off at high speed. I'm lucky so far, My inner fenders rubs on the tires everytime at that speed, and also the last couple of runs,I noticed the hood starts to bow at the center because all the air under the hood has to come out somewhere, I had to remove the wipers and the rubber seal in back of the hood so that air can get out.

Yes I have hood problem and i fixed that with installing Z28 heat extractor. I have diablosport custom tune from Lewis. I can tell him fix this shift points and throttle ? I assume hit 170Mph not 150 like now. Of you hit 200Mph your car is a beastt))
