On Star

I was curious, who still has it and uses this? I discontinued mine when my free subscription expired. I did like the phone service with the satellite when my cell phone didnt get service but never used it enough.

I changed out the head unit and did not bother to buy the additional adapter kit to keep the Onstar. I hadn't used it prior to the change either.

Had it up until last month. Mainly kept until then in both the Camaro & Traverse for the NAV (we travel a lot); but couldn't see paying the monthly fee just for that, especially since I own a GARMIN with lifetime free map updates. When I cancelled, they gave me the 3 year free service which still allows me to use the MyChevrolet App remote features and get the monthly diagnostic reports.

The free app lets you start,(automatic transmission only) lock or unlock your car with your phone. You don't have to continue subscribing after your free trial runs out. Good for 5 years from the orginal purchase date. Lock your keys in once and you'll be happy you have it.

I've been using it on both vehicles since 2008. The value for my money is that with a single push of the button on the rearview mirror you can reach someone 24/7, 365 days of the year.

This past November I had a CEL came on in my DD at 6:30 a.m. on the way to work one morning. Pushed the OnStar button and was told it was something with the fuel system. Turned out the culprit was the gas cap which wasn't tightening properly. A new gas cap solved the problem.

Neither Honda or Toyota (looking at a CUV / SUV to replace my DD) offer anything like OnStar and the ability to connect with someone at the push of a button in the event of a potentially emergent situation can be priceless.

Keep in mind, OnStar rates ARE negotiable. Don't pay more than 9.95 / month for the middle plan.

Anyone know if this offer is available in Canada? I canceled it on the Camaro when it ran out, but our new cruise is about to expire. Just wondering if anyone knows.

Yes the free service is in Canada. I've been using it for almost two years now. It allows you limited use of the Onstar app. For mine (2015 my), it was included for 5 years with the purchase of the car.

Later,
Brad

I will not be renewing after my free trial is over. Twice I've tried to use navigation and twice they couldn't find 2 major towns near me. My cell phone navigation got the job done in 30 seconds.

I kept it in all of my vehicles, its a piece of mind, vehicle tracking and shut down if the car is stolen , able to unlock the door if the keys are locked in and phone service that is 10x better than any cellular provider can offer. To me its well worth it.

Car thieves do that.
Or do you mean so they can't track you?

Do you carry a cell phone? Have an EZ-Pass?
