New cam valvetrain ticking...
So I recently installed the Howards ASA cam with new PAC 1218 springs, pushrods, and retainers. I might just be over reacting, but it sounds like the valvetrain has a weird vibrating noise coming from it at higher rpms and possibly lifter tick at idle? I recorded a before and after video of the cam valvetrain, though didn't think to rev the motor before the cam... Do yall think this is normal? Everything else on the motors running perfect, and the power feels great!
Pre-Cam (sorry for the longer video, its just the first ~20 seconds) Post Cam

Did you replace the lifters? Did you check pr length? What was preload set at? What oil are you running?

Lifters are stock, used 7.4 push rods and I ended up getting about 1 and 3/4 turn on the pedestal bolt. And whatever the stock weight was. I think 5w 30.
Some pedestal bolts got 2 turns on it, which I thought was a bit much... What's recommended?

That would have been me maybe...the turn on the rocker BS is that, BS...I'm calling it out now...our rockers are net lash..meaning once it's tq down..that's it...old school adjustable was by turns..
you need a pr length checker....cyl 1 tdc...put in intake pr checker lowest setting...bolt down intake rocker 22...now adjust checker up until it and rocker tip just touching valve tip(DO NOT COMPRESS LIFTER)..remove rocker and measure pr checker...zero lash...now add recommended preload...this is your pr length.. if you end up have to replace the pr(if new cam base is less than stock)pr will need to be a bit longer...so you might have to little preload..this is noisy but safer if you want to race...so you may need a 7.425...and here is a little tip from me..get 3/8 pr...fit like a freakin glove and adds massive drive train stability...I can rev my motor to 7k REPEATEDLY and it just sings....good luck and peace out...

Likely normal. Lingenfelter put in my cam and I heard similar unfamiliar sounds. Took it back to them to check. They checked it all out and said it's normal valve train sound when you go to a bigger cam. Its been fine.

I've seen guys chase this to the edge of the earth in the past 18 years and most never get it quiet

I'm going to go back in and do the technique frankwjr recommended. If these rods are too long i'm going to put the stockers back in and order shorter rods and report back with noise levels

You only need to check cyl 1 bro...all others should be within +/- .001 or so hopefully...appreciate you takin my advice but like Bo said...could be normal...
btw - what was the mileage on the lifters? once I figure out how to post vids I'll get some up..hopefully by March 4, Mason Dixon drag opens!

Has 40k miles. Figured not enough to change the Lifters just yet. Not with a low lift like the asa cam
