ramp mods for changing oil?
I have a set of ramps I normally use to change oil. For low front ends, I can often use wood to help but wasn't even close with my front splitter.
was curious what everybody is using when changing oil. I really don't want to jack up the car each time. any good ideas so I don't have to buy another set of low profile ramps? can I add some sort of low profile extension to my current ramps? any picts? |

The race ramps are like $300. Rhino ramps are like $60 for not much less plastic. Why is it that some small company doesn't make low profile ramps in the $75 range? The liability can't be much more for low profile versus the regular ones can it? I'm in the same boat as the OP so I'd like to know if there is any other solution beside race ramps. I'm sure race ramps are great, but they just seem a bit high for what they are.

yea, $300 isn't a good option. ugh.
after some researching... I think I'll be buying these extensions tomorrow at Carquest. my current ramps look exactly like the black ramps (except mine are yellow). Although still not sure they're low enough... figure it's worth a shot for $45. http://www.autoramps.com/ultra_ramps.htm http://www.myvirtualpaper.com/doc/ca...1/212.html#212 |

You get what you pay for.... If you think $300 is to much for a $40,000 Car, I guess you need to find other options......

My Rhino ramps work fine for my '14.
And for the "uh oh!" department, the first time I tried backing up them to raise the rear so I could paint the mufflers, I screwed up and backed completely over them! Wham! But the auto gods were smiling and no damage at all was done to the car and there was enough clearance to get the ramps out from under the rockers with out tearing anything up. Glad all my neighbors have to work for a living and there were no witnesses to my stupidity. That's my tale and I'm sticking to it. |

I used the jack to raise the front left side. Had enough room to loosen the drain plug. Lowered it in between draining and putting the drain plug back on.

Slick rick Nice idea with the little cheater boards on each riser. 2" risers with 1" helper boards in front of them to make it more gradual. Nicely Done. And for me just about free I can find the wood in few our rolloff dumpsters from contractors. 2x10's are not cheap a lot cheaper then 300$ bet that coasted under 50$ all in and the satisfaction of seeing your handy work every time you do your own oil changes.
