If you want to save some money, you can get the Escort SmartRadar for $179, using the promo code in the thread below. It's the same detection capabilities as the 9500ix like I have, but a better price at this site. The main difference between it and the 9500ix is the GPS is offloaded to your cell phone. However, will run fine without a cell phone as well sans the GPS features.
Deal - http://slickdeals.net/f/7129546-esco...-free-shipping Don't take my word for it though. Here's a guy who knows his stuff reviewing it. Review by Veil Guy - http://veilguy.blogspot.com/2012/09/...ote-radar.html

Don't own a radar detector. I obey the speed limit.

I believe this is the one:
http://www.amazon.com/Whistler-Pro-6...dp/B003AIL5KI/ It's a few years old now. Plenty accurate (also does occasionally annoy with false alerts). I'd buy a better unit but I rarely push things enough to justify hundreds more on the next level of detection (like an Escort). For under $100 though it has no problem seeing ka around corners or from far up the road, as well as from behind. Laser - well you're likely screwed it you get tagged so I don't buy into advanced laser protection. Chance of catching a stray reflection is small, especially if the cop knows what they're doing and targets YOU (not the vehicle in front or beside you). The integration of GPS and radar trap mapping is cool. Holy cow those units are expensive though. I guess they're worth it if you drive 35+mph over the limit and are trying to avoid a night in jail. Otherwise... meh. |

Escort 9500 ci with display on Heads up. Works fantastic, just expensive. It has saved me numerous times and hidden from view - worth every penny.

Had a Max... and it was good.. but where I drive is dominated by laser so I don't think it'll do me much good... Might reconsider if they come out with a ci version...

I picked up an Escort Max when they first released. I wasn't all that impressed with it's detection range and felt mine was defective. I ended up sending it into Escort and they repaired a sensor and now detection ranges have been pretty great.
I don't often speed though, most cops in my are seem to fire when they see you, so unless you pick up a blast from another vehicle ahead of you, you really don't get much warning. However, if they are running radar constantly, the warning is soon enough to make sure I'm not speeding.

I have an older escort and the false alerts from motion detector doors at the stores are a real pain. I set it on local to reduce the false alarms but its constantly going off.
