question after hotchkiss 1 inch coil install

Just finished up a hotchkiss 1 inch coil install on 15 1LE and alignment. Noticed that the top strut mount round plates in the engine compartment no longer fit flush against the engine bay sheetmetal. There is a small maybe 1/4 inch gap around the round ring. Is this normal? I called hotchkiss and they said normal, but seems strange, and cant understand the reason it is like this when they were flush with stock springs.

thanks for any help
