Supercharger Reliability

Hey y'all, recently I purchased a 2010 SS with a Vortech centrif. charger and plan to add 1 7/8 headers, catless mids, and 3" exhaust w/ x-pipe in the near future. With this setup im easily going to be lookin at 500+ rwhp but my concern is how reliable this car will be (being my daily driver). I've seen people talkin about swapping the internals to forged, but short of that do y'all think my car will be a risk to daily drive or is the L99 gunna be solid?

Fleeflowing exhaust reduces restriction and makes it more efficient so less stressed. You'll be fine if your tuner is good.

If you are not pounding it at the strip every Friday night and just partaking in a little spirited acceleration from time to time you are going to be just fine on stock clutch, stock rear, stock bottom end. I didn't upgrade my clutch and drive line until I went to ~ 625 RWHP.

I added the Edelbrock E-Force supercharger to my one year old 2010 SS in September of 2010. I have 59K on the car and 44K miles on the s/c and it runs great. Normally it drives like a daily driver until you give it some gas.

I have 160k miles on my car, stock bottom end, original clutch, 13lbs of boost. Whipple went on the car at 30k miles. I drive it everyday over 120 miles round trip. Knock on wood I've never had an issue.

Octane , octane , octane. Run good gas and don't tune it to the ragged edge and it will go a long way. How hard you run it for how long matters. 1/8th and 1/4 mile isn't hard. 42 mile runs across country, another story. Everything is relavent.

My guess is it will last a long time. Vortec stuff is very efficient. You'll have it a long time. Just put 10K aside , just in case. When it goes, buy a shortblock and laugh it off. Then make more power.

I only run 93 octane, its the best, most readily available fuel here in Ga. (and most places lol). Once i get the exhaust installed im gunna have them go ahead and dyno tune it for 93. But as for racing, its only gunna see two 1/2 mile events a year and probably a mountain sprint or two. NO long road trip tho

Have you been daily drivin it with that 700+rwhp?? How bigs that cam? Id love to put one on one day but i feel like a cammed car is unreliable, idk why i think that but i do lol

There are plenty of cammed cars on here that are very reliable....

I have a Vengeance VSRP II cam (not the biggest out there) M6, LTs, full exhaust which has excellent drivability. No bucking in first even at parking lot speeds (<10mph)... It has been in the car 25+K miles. It has been to some road racing events and the drag strip. When daily driving, I am always in the throttle and regularlly above 100mph - but only in Mexico.

I am putting a YSi on my car and going to use the BTR stg1 PD cam (easier on the valve train than the VSRP II). So when I pull the parts out I will document for the board the wear of the cam, BTR .660 springs, lifters and comp trunion upgrade...

I have had the Vortech V3 setup for several years now.

Being in Chicago, the weather is a pain in the ass. The heat and humidity in the summer is brutal. The car feels like an absolute dog on those days.

Conversely, on cool fall and spring days, the car feels super quick.

Tuning is obviously of critical importance. At the start of every season, I usually do half a tank of 100 to mix with the remaining 93 to make sure the fuel is good.

Haha weather sucks down here too, +90°F and 80-90% humidity is just another day here lol. Winters awesome tho, gets pretty cold but of course theres no snow. I remember riding in a C6 Z06 that had a procharger and in the winter it felt like a completely different car than it did in the summer.
