Car theft prevention, what are u using?

My 2018ss 1le, got stolen a few weeks back. I’m not sure if I’ll get it back at this point. If I get another Camaro I would like to drive it and keep it from being stolen. It would be garaged in my house but I want to drive the car.
I’d like to get some feedback and ideas from people who have used anti theft devices , igla? Compustar? Ravelco, the club ? I’m open to ideas to avoid having to go through this again.

Sorry to hear your car got stolen. That really sucks. I know at least around here the police don't have the resources to investigate most crimes - even felony theft. I hope the insurance company will make it right for you.

I lock the doors when it's parked anywhere other than at home in the garage, but that's about it. I do also keep the key inside a metal container at work (it's just a metal set of drawers, but my assumption is it will block the signal from the key fob).

The only other thing I do that might help avoid car theft is I live a boring life. Most of the time it's parked at work or at home, and my work hours are early.

You might want to check to make sure. I have a metal key cabinet that doesn't block the signal. You could try to bring the metal container out next to your car, have your keys in it, and see if you can unlock the car - of course if its a set of drawers you might look a little silly lol . . .

You are right that it might not fully block the signal. I've been working there a long time and never had a problem, so I'm not very worried. I think it's easy enough to throw the fob in the cabinet rather than having it in a pocket. If nothing else, it should at least reduce the signal a lot and make it more difficult to pick up outside the building.

Some sort of remote disabling device that you can use. Disable the car after you park it.

Maybe something simple like this disconnect: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-g1442

Maybe install it somewhere in the rear of the car either in the wheel well where it can't be seen or behind the rear bumper or body panel.

Only way to steal the car then is wench it onto a trailer or flatbed.

My car is a manual transmission and I wasn’t parked in a sketchy area, I was in a hotel parking lot, I traveled for work and decided to drive my car there, silly me for actually driving and enjoying the car right?
My goal here is to able to drive the car and have some peace of mind about parking it somewhere. I realize there are no 100% thief proof systems.

About that battery disconnect, would you be able to unlock the car with the fob or would you have to use the key?

The last time I stayed at a hotel with a cool car, I wrapped the key fob in a couple layers of aluminum foil. I have no idea if this makes a difference, but I've heard people use the signals from the key fob and amplify them to get into and start the car. So if you block those signals it should help. You could probably buy something made for this purpose (blocking the key fob signals) if you are traveling regularly.

I still felt uncomfortable, because it was right off the highway. I parked in the middle of a bunch of cars (edit: and turned the wheels sideways) to make it a little more difficult rather than parking way back away from everyone where it would be easier to mess with the car.

Hey man, I’m not trying to come off defensive about your comment, I get what you’re saying about the manual transmission, I thought it would be a deterrent as well that’s why I got this car.

It's garaged, insured, and I'm not going to leave it overnight in places like a hotel parking lot. If I ever do, I'll probably pull some fuses so it can't be readily started, but that won't keep someone from dragging it onto a flatbed.

There's some amount of risk in everything.
