416 stroker or 3.91

I'm in a place right now where idk if I want to do a 416 or 3.91 gear or both... I currently have gpi ss4 and a 3800 yank converter.. with future plans of running centri bbut that's a few years out. I have the money to do 1of 2. Either 416 or 3.91 bbut could squeeze both if I wanted.. the car is more of a daily street car that'll see the track a little.. pros and cons or either choice is greatly appreciated

I’m curious, aren’t gears a few hundred bucks vs a stroker a few thousand?! Doing the work yourself? Maybe I’ve assumed labor costs. Anyway I would do both lol! Interested to hear others responses. I’m just a nurse lol

Wouldn’t you have to change gears again if you went blower in the future?

Yea.. the price is a big justifying part... aannd both would be nice but traction would be a major issue.. I heard go 3.91, keep stock cubes and boost... I've also heard stock gears, 416stroker and boost...I have a teammate that's has both and hooking isn't his strong point lol.. especially being more of a street car that won't see a track much being that there 2+ hours away

I honestly don't know with going centri. But I do know 3.91s won't be hard to sell

What's the condition of your current engine? If it's still running strong no need to go to crazy and replace it. I'm a big fan of simple mods and going from 3.27(I believe that's what you currently have with an auto trans) to 3.91 will be a quick way to see noticeable improvements in acceleration. Sure, you'll see a decrease in fuel economy and lower top end speed but there's always a trade off. Traction shouldn't be an issue with modern tires, traction control and right foot discipline (probably the most challenging).

Right now it's at 95k. Had the cam installed maybe 10k ago.. wasn't going to replace it but just build thre motor I have in it... I also thought about going 3.91 and doing the suspension and just saving the stroker till next year. If I do the 416 this year im boosting it next year. Just a hard decision kind of

If I was to go gear this year, I was going to do the stroker end of the year or this time next year

Eh, in that case I would do the stroker first. You might not want more gear if you stroke it and throw boost at it.

Same thing I was saying but I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be hard to sell a 3.91 diff for a zl1 3.23 or a my 3.45.
