Are there really that many people who get in their cars without knowing where they're going?

Something i was thinking about pending several things would be to buy a gps, and if it can be paired with the car through blue tooth all the better. What i was thinking was that i would want to see a map so i can have some idea of where i am. I recently drove from MI to AL to FL back to MI and it was something that i wish that i had. What i am going to look into is installing a gps in the dash that can be paired with the car if possible but not near the radio. I want to see if it can be installed with a motor on top of the dash where there is a little island. I want to see if i can remove that island and have a screen flush there that will come up when the car starts and can be put back down when it turns off and at the push of a button. Well see how far i get.

Garmin.

Look@ what everyone compares their system with: GARMIN. They're the gold standard.

My TomTom 730 will recognize and display "General Motors", but I can't get it to connect. It says it can't configure it, so I dunno what to do to get it to work.

No one has mentioned Magellan yet. I have had one for two years its never once let me down I love it. It works faster/better than my friends' Garmins.

I am waiting for the Tom Tom for iPhone to come out to see if its specs are great compared to dedicated GPS' -http://iphone.tomtom.com/

If its comparable and I can do away with yet another device plus have my Nav with me out of the Camaro it may be the way to go ( recognizing you have to have an iPhone 3G / 3Gs)...

Tried pairing my Garmin Nuvi 660 with the car. Could see "General Motors" on the gps but both the car and gps want you to enter a passcode on the other. So it looks like a no-go. Heard there was a PDIM software update for the camaro, might update the gps bluetooth connection options. Not holding my breath though.

Nuvi on the dash works great, I don't usually use the voice prompts anyway. Just like the estimated arrival time.

so no one has been able to connect a GPS with the bluetooth yet? i really want to know how that would work, i love the way my tom tom has the 3D street view, and i dont think the onstar system will be able to compare with only an arrow. but if i had a bluetooth GPS that would connect, i think it would be perfect...any new news on this?

i bought the garmin nuvi for mine..alot of the addresses are wrong for my area..and it takes me to the wrong locations..but i do live in west virginia so im sure thats why its soo messed up. but the factory navi/dvd/cd player in my tahoe done the same thing..if its that kind of system navi in dash dvd/cd/navi unit youre talking about ive put on several posts that my fiancee has a rockford fosgate one in her lancer its the best radio ive seen so far. when you put a cd in the system it instantly rips the cd to the stereo in only 20 secs or so. she had queens greatest hits and it only took 20 secs for that. we didnt even know it did that so when it wouldnt play we got mad then it spit the disc out. we were furious so we read the manual and found the whole cd had been ripped to the player permenately untill you delete it yourself. it stores 999 playlists and each playlist stores 999 songs you do the math and that is a butt load of songs for a built in mp3 player basically. so you dont need an ipod or zune or cds. its all there with navi and xm/serius fm am dvd. so when the camaros come out in december with the nav units in them ima try to order a dash for my camaro and try to have that same unit installed for my car.that is if they release the nav units in december like ive heard.
