Post 5th Annual Bucks County Covered Bridge Cruise 10/11/15

RIDE IS ON!!!

Well folks, it's official...the 5th annual Bucks County covered bridge cruise is on again this year!! Based on insightful feedback and great ideas from previous cruisers (thanks everyone!), we want to make this an even bigger success and try to avoid anyone from getting lost along the way.

For starters, we are asking everyone to sign up (along with your club affiliation) in this thread so we can get an accurate count on the number of cars attending. As we get closer to the day of the cruise, everyone will be assigned a group number and a team leader who knows the route we are taking. If anyone is interested in volunteering to be a lead, please contact either Kevin (kmm1412) or me.

Also, as some of you may know, Camaro5 has been experiencing issues with pushing out email notifications for PM's and Thread Subscriptions, so please check back here regularly for updates.

9/19 UPDATE: The route has been added and we will be crossing 5 covered bridges this year. Although, the route is subject to change if there are any unexpected road or bridge closings but we'll cross that bridge when we get there. (Sorry, I couldn't resist ) As a reminder, some of the roads we will use are definitely roads less traveled...they are narrow, twisty, and run right through people's back yards. Please be safe and keep an eye out for pedestrians/bicyclists as well as oncoming traffic.

10/9 UPDATE: Please read the second post for additional information!

Things to remember bringing if you have them:
1) Walkie-talkies...or a cell phone with at least one other person's number in the cruise
2) GPS...not necessarily for directions, but so you can see what road you're on and look for the next turn
3) Money for concessions at the airport...or pack a lunch for when we get there.
4) Cameras and/or GoPro's...since we can never have too many pictures of our cars!

Date: OCT-11-2015 Sunday

Meet Time: 9:30 AM

10/9 UPDATE: The forecast has stabilized and I don't think we could ask for better weather on Sunday...72 and Sunny!

Groups: Thank you everyone who has signed up so far and providing your group information. If I missed your group association, please let me know so I can update the list accordingly. There is no cap to the number of cars, so if you still aren't sure if you can make it, or decide at the last minute, you have until 9:30AM to make it to Washington's Crossing (not that we are rolling out at that time, but you get the idea).

When you do arrive at the parking lot, please be sure to check in with Jodi, Kevin, or me as soon as possible. We will have a printed copy of the directions along with other important cruise information and will provide your group number at that time. If possible, our goal is to try and park everyone in line with their group, and then you can go about cleaning your car, taking pictures, socializing, etc. Should the off-chance of there being too many cars in the lot, then we will resort to random parking and call each group number when it is time to start.

Radios: To help minimize cross-group chatter, each group will be using their number as the channel (no sub-channels), so Group 1 will use channel 1.0, etc. As long as you are not in the last group and you need to stop without holding up the rest of your group, just go up one channel and you should be fine. If you are in the last group, let one of the photographers know and we'll stop with you.

Pictures: There will be two photo-ops along the route. The first covered bridge (Van Sant) is not too far from Washington's Crossing. Tony (xnyuokr) and Jack (JacekPSUr1) will be setup and direct you from there. Since the road is straight and wider, you can take your time crossing and even stop once you clear the bridge. However, since the road does have a lot of local traffic, please allow enough room before the bridge to allow on-coming cars to cross between the mini-photo shoots.

The next covered bridge for photos is Cabin Run, which is the third covered bridge along the route. Due to parking restrictions and road conditions, I am asking everyone just to do a rolling stop after crossing the bridge and then continuing up the road (and remember to make the first left after the bridge). The group lead and tail will know when the last car has crossed the bridge so they can resume cruising speeds.

Looking forward to seeing everyone on Sunday!
