Like everyone is saying, it's torque that counts when doing burnouts. Make sure both TC and stabiltrak are turned off. Do yourself a favor and buy a Vitesse Throttle Controller. You'll be in burnout heaven. Tire manufacturers should give Vitesse a kickback.

clarification

I come to a complete stop. Does it matter if I'm in first gear with the clutch down or do I need to be out of gear? I then hold the traction control button for 10 seconds. Is there some type of notification that it was successful?

The indicator screen should tell you it was turned off and both the tc and stability control lights will be on

Yes, the icons will light up on your dash indicating that they're off.

Check your owner's manual, it will show you how to turn them off if you're unsure.

you could have bought a low mileage SS 2010~2011 for probably the same or less than what you paid for your new ls, just saying..

How does this comment even add anything to the conversation?

My ExtremeContacts hook hard. I did a 4K clutch dump the other day and it struggled to grip for a few feet then hooked hard. I had to tach it up to about 4.5K to really get it to smoke the tires, but I read the ExtremeContacts are hard to break loose. Overall that was apart of my decision in getting those tires.
This right here, tires are better today. My V6 has a supercharger and 3.91 gears, with BF Goodrich Sport Comp 2's I can floor it in 1st on a good street with little spin. Put skinny all-season tires and you will spin.

You say you didn't have the $$$$ for an SS but you would rather spend it on tires if burnouts are so important.

There's a good chance he doesn't spend 10k on tires for the entire life of the car, even with burnouts

Press and hold the traction control button for I think 7 seconds to turn off traction and stabilitrac. If that doesn't help, I would recommend the vitesse throttle controller. I think a big part of this is the electronic throttle. It's programmed with delay. The throttle controller takes a lot of that out. Put that thing on sp9 and dump the clutch. Enjoy :-)

No. not 10k but the tires are far from cheap ,speaking for myself I'd rather spend the money on a little higher car payment and have a higher performance car rather than spending it on tires because I'm wearing them out doing burnouts .....use a little logic.

Tires are pretty wide on these cars. I have the V8 Grand Prix with 303HP stock (I think torque is 323). I've tuned it and have an intake. I can roast the front for a bit (front wheel drive) but they are skinnier than the Camaro (255's on the GP). With a clutch dump though, you should break um loose if the nannies are completely off.

Yeah. but what if he spends the 10k on an SS, then he can't afford to do burnouts? .... Either way, he's screwed.

But he wants to do burn outs. Is it logical to have a higher payment and still pay to replace tires?
