"I have a 2011 Camaro, and haven't done anything dumb, don't knock the whole generation just because of 1 stupid kid."

Couldn't agree more. I"m 18 and have a 2012 RS (got it when I was 17) and have never had a traffic ticket of any kind. I've also never done anything worthy of a traffic ticket of any kind. There are just as many (if not more) adults who do dumb stuff like this with their fast cars. So don't knock my generation or especially my car. It goes up to 155 just like the v8's and can go even faster if you remove the chip preventing it from going any faster (probably not a good idea for anyone though...).

And I just because I didn't buy my car doesn't mean I didn't earn it!

I highly doubt that.
this is Texas and they do not play on this particular charge.
it is a felony 3 and will stick especially with dash cams as evidence and his previous traffic records.

he is done.
He will have no future with a Felony and will never be able to drive in Texas again.

hope they crush the car in front of him.

we had another teen in a Camaro tarnish our image the other day here as well.

This dude is an idiot... Everyone gets at least one major speeding ticket... that should have been enough. But to do it a 2nd time... now that's where clearly he is not responsible enough to drive and should be taking the bus for a long time. The embarrassment of that among his friends and classmates will be enough. But now with this stupid felony charge (it'll get reduced after community service i bet) I smell military in his future. It's the smart move to do as a parent honestly.

On another note... I don't believe any kid should get a car like this as their first car. Give them a brand new 4 door sedan like a Civic, Accord, Kia etc and let them graduate from that. Smh Parents are dumb and should be paying a fine to the city for everyone's wasted time and effort. And car should go up for auction.

Damn. I used to drive that stretch of Briar Forest daily, and nobody has any business Racing on that road.

As for the kid from the original story...Certainly not all kids are bad or stupid drivers. I did some silly things when I was younger in my car, but never open road excessive speed. Too easy to screw up and kill yourself, or worse, someone else. But this kid is a moron.

And in TX under the penal code, 17 is considered an adult. He will be charged as an adult on whatever else they throw at him after turning his ride into a kick ass detectives car, or "ghost marked" cruiser.

It really doesn't matter if its a V6 or V8 at 120+mph, your an idiot either way driving that wreckless on a populated highway. I hope the revoke his license for a good long time.

Just so glad this story didn't end up with a tragedy like innocent people getting killed or injured from such a careless and stupid decision. His parents should of never given him a brand new Camaro for a first car. I think maybe a nice used Civic, escort, cavalier etc. to learn how to drive it and incase you bang it up or wreck it. My 2 sons and including myself never had a brand new car for a 1st car. Hell my 1st car didn't even run and when i did get it running it ran like sh*t. Really sad story for all involved. :(

im sure that he wont get much more than a slap on the wrist, when i was a deputy i got into a pursuit with a 2008 pontiac GTO driven by a 18 year old high school kid one night. my crown vic governed out at about 133mph and he was leaving me on the straight run of highway. luckily i had partners just up the road and we got him shut down. he refused to exit the vehicle and as i was attempting to extract him out of the window he started revving the engine and starting trying to shift gears to take off again. i took a step back and tased him and it took all of the fight out of him. he ran because of the 2lbs of marijuana that was in his trunk, the kid never did one day in jail and only got a small fine....and he even got the car back

You don't live in Texas ( Houston ) we have had some horrible high speed evades down here in fact 1 last week that lasted 2 hours.
They will destroy this kid. They do not play on evading here.
and like said above 17 is legal in Texas. so Adult "PMITA" prison here he comes.

Ok I thought felony 3 meant 3rd degree which would be the easiest felony charge to have reduced to a misdemeanor. This happened to a friend of mine when we were younger and he was drunk and not speeding excessively. They reduced the charge to some kind of misdemeanor and gave him probation.

I wouldn't give a Camaro to a 17 year old but thats just me. Though, this guy would have driven recklessly regardless of the car. Just too immature of an individual to be driving.

OP, the title of your post confuses me. A Camaro has absolutely nothing to do with your point, other than that's what the kid was driving when he got busted.

I owned a '74 Monte Carlo and a '75 Chevelle that I did the exact same kind of crap in. In fact, I had a taillight cut-out switch wired in so I could still see while killing the taillights so the cops couldn't see me. It worked.

Was it stupid? Oh, hell yes. But I was an indestructible teenager and never thought about the harm or consequences at all. And my parents didn't buy my cars, and it wasn't a Camaro. V-8 cars capable of 120 MPH plus.
